Instead…

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,

begotten from the Father before all ages

Ephesians 4:5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism,

One LORD [context — Ephesians 4:4 There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to one hope at your calling]

1 Corinthians 8:6 yet for us there is one God, the Father. All things are from him, and we exist for him. And there is one Lord, Jesus Christ. All things are through him, and we exist through him.

Matthew 1:20–21 But after he had considered these things, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, don’t be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because what has been conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. JESUS — Yeshua; Yahweh is salvation (saves)

Only Begotten Son of God

John 3:16 “For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”

“One and only” = only begotten; only born…son of God

Anyone who believes in him is not condemned, but anyone who does not believe is already condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God.]] (highlight = our only hope of salvation/eternal life is the one and only son of God)

John 1:18 No one has ever seen God. The one and only Son, who is himself God and is at the Father’s side—he has revealed him.

John is certainly clear on who Jesus is.

Begotten…Before All Ages

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

“In the beginning” = At…actually before…the dawn of creation (Genesis 1.1)

Why is this confession about Jesus important?

Colossians 1:13–14 He has rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of the Son he loves. In him we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

“The Son” is the one who accomplished our salvation. So how do we know WHO the Son is?…)

Colossians 1:15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

Colossians 1:17 He is before all things, and by him all things hold together.

Philippians 2:9–11 For this reason God highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow— in heaven and on earth and under the earth— and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
