Paul and Barnabus are called by God for a mission. What important here is that they were called by called and led by the Spirit through the mission. They may have had the desire to do these things, but the success of what they did was because they were called to do it and they relied on the Spirit to lead them. We are all commissioned by God to make disciples, but we need to be directed by him on where. Often I think people go on a “missions trip” not because they were called or led, but for their own motives. We are all called to disciple and share the gospel. Start with where you are. Paul and Barnabas were already ministering; they did not wait to go elsewhere to start. Start here and now, then trust the Lord to show you where next.
Over these chapters, we see the first trip of Paul, with Barnabus. They go to Cyprus, Antioch, Iconium and Lystra, where Paul is stoned, not the fun kind of stoned! The rocks hitting you repeatedly kind. In these areas, they see mixed results, of repentance and refusal.
Then we come to the second missionary journey where at the very start Paul and Barnabus have a bug argument over whether or not Mark should be allowed to come. Through this, they divide into two groups and two mission trips. Barnabus and Mark go one way and Paul and Silas another way.

God will use different people and methods in different places for the purpose of the gospel. That is because the mission is always the same, reach the whole world. It is so important that I don't criticize other churches or mission groups, just because they do things differently. I have to remember that God has one mission and us as the Church as a whole are all on the same team.
