Prayer(What Not To Do)

Introduction: There are so many things we could talk about today and everyone of them would have their own place and importance in our lives. However, in the last couples months God has been speaking to me about something that I feel is the most important topic in the Bible. Every so often we as believers can find ourselves in a place where we feel like things are stagnate- like we can not get to the next level. Its not that we don’t have a relationship with God or that we are caught in some deep dark sin, but rather it just feels like we are missing something. It seems like not to long ago when I was there. It felt like I was going through the motions. It wasn't that I didn't love God- I have loved God with all my heart since I gave my life to him. However, there came a point in my relationship with him where I just felt like I was missing something.
When Robert Louis Stevenson was a boy he once remarked to his mother, "Momma, you can't be good without praying." "How do you know, Robert?" she asked. "Because I've tried!" he answered. This brings to mind a story about another little fellow -- one who had been sent to his room because he had been bad. A short time later he came out and said to his mother, "I've been thinking about what I did and I said a prayer." "That's fine," she said, "if you ask God to make you good, He will help you." "Oh, I didn't ask Him to help me be good," replied the boy. "I asked Him to help you put up with me."
