Introduction

Greetings…
We continue our series on “I Want To Go To Heaven” and be with God for all of eternity this beautiful morning.
Last week we talked about how God’s holiness gives us confidence to say we know we have eternal life and can be with God forever…
Because of God’s perfect goodness.
Because of God’s transforming presence.
Because of God’s unbroken fellowship.
This week we are going to focus on that fact that…
God’s infinite wisdom is not some abstract concept, it is the solid ground of our assurance that we can and will dwell with him forever.
Why, because God’s Wisdom…

Designed Our Salvation

Before Time Began

God’s eternal purpose in our creation, from creation was that we would all spend an eternity with him.
1 Timothy 2:3–4 ESV
3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Ezekiel 18:23 ESV
23 Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, declares the Lord God, and not rather that he should turn from his way and live?
That eternal purpose concerning our creation is why God established a way of redemption by which we can again “live.”
Ephesians 1:7 ESV
7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace
2 Peter 3:9 ESV
9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
Now, what is so significant about this is that, the scheme of redemption was not a reaction to his human creations failure.
No, his divine wisdom made provisions for our failures before time began.
Ephesians 1:4–5 ESV
4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will
Ephesians 3:10–11 ESV
10 so that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. 11 This was according to the eternal purpose that he has realized in Christ Jesus our Lord
2 Timothy 1:9 ESV
9 who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began,

Summary

I want to go to heaven and be with God forever, and hope you do too, because God’s plan was formed in divine wisdom from eternity, which means it cannot fail.
Our hope of eternity rests on God’s wisdom and thus his unchanging purpose, to adopt us into his family and have us with him for all of eternity.
I want to go to heaven and be with God forever because God’s wisdom is…

Displayed At The Cross

The Message Of The Cross

What the world calls foolishness is God’s highest wisdom.
1 Corinthians 1:18 ESV
18 For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
1 Corinthians 1:23–24 ESV
23 but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.
1 Corinthians 2:7–8 ESV
7 But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, which God decreed before the ages for our glory. 8 None of the rulers of this age understood this, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
What the world calls foolishness is God’s highest wisdom.
That the death of his son secures our life from death.
1 Peter 3:18 ESV
18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit
2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV
21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Isaiah 53:5 ESV
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.

Summary

I want to go to heaven and can have confidence in being there one day with our God forever because the same divine wisdom that planned our adoption accomplished it through the cross.
If God is wise enough to provide for us a perfect sacrifice, that enables us to be found justified before him, then God’s wisdom is enough to give us confidence that he can bring us home to him one day.
Lastly, I want to go to heaven and know that we can have confidence in being there one day because God’s wisdom…

Guarantees Our Inheritance

The Spirit’s Seal

God’s wisdom does not stop at planning our adoption or his providing for our justification.
No, God’s wisdom has provided for us a guarantee of our eternal inheritance.
Ephesians 1:13–14 ESV
13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.
1 Peter 1:3–5 ESV
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 5 who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
That guarantee is founded in the promise that we are heirs with Christ.
Romans 8:17 ESV
17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.
God’s wisdom should enlighten us to our glorious inheritance and gives us the confidence to know we spend all of eternity with our God.
Ephesians 1:18 ESV
18 having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints

Summary

I want to go to heaven and spend all of eternity with God because his wisdom planned and purchased my salvation and has given us the guaranteed seal of our inheritance.
That seal gives us the confidence to know that we, one day, will see our God face to face and live with him forever.

Conclusion

Brethren, we do not hope in heaven because we are wise enough to get there.
We hope and have confidence in being in heaven one day with God because of God’s infinite and divine wisdom.
Invitation
Isaiah 59:1–2 ESV
1 Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear; 2 but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.
Philippians 2:6–7 ESV
6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
Romans 10:17 ESV
17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
Hebrews 11:6 ESV
6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
Acts 17:30 ESV
30 The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent
Luke 14:33 ESV
33 So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple.
Matthew 10:32–33 NKJV
32 Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. 33 But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.
2 Thessalonians 1:8 ESV
8 in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
1 Corinthians 15:1–4 ESV
1 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures
Romans 6:3–5 ESV
3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.
1 John 1:7 ESV
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
James 1:12 ESV
12 Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.
