Jesus is the Foundation
Bible teachers are Servants and Stewards of God’s Word
Calling out sin is NOT about shame, but CORRECTION in LOVE
1 It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that is not tolerated even among pagans, for a man has his father’s wife.
2 And you are arrogant! Ought you not rather to mourn? Let him who has done this be removed from among you.
3 For though absent in body, I am present in spirit; and as if present, I have already pronounced judgment on the one who did such a thing.
4 When you are assembled in the name of the Lord Jesus and my spirit is present, with the power of our Lord Jesus,
5 you are to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord.
6 Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump?
7 Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump, as you really are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.
8 Let us therefore celebrate the festival, not with the old leaven, the leaven of malice and evil, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
9 I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people—
10 not at all meaning the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world.
11 But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one.
12 For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge?
13 God judges those outside. “Purge the evil person from among you.”
Church Discipline 1-5
Church Discipline 1-5
Church Discipline is difficult!
What about Matthew 7:1 “1 “Judge not, that you be not judged.” or John 8:7 “7 And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.””
The Corinthian church was celebrating “Freedom in Christ” by openly accepting an incestuous relationship
5—Give him back to the world...repentance is still possible
Our sinful, UNREPENTANT, behavior cannot continue without consequence
A Little Goes a Long Way 6-8
A Little Goes a Long Way 6-8
They were boasting about the “INCLUSIVITY”
That is not always a good thing
A SMALL amount of FALSE teaching/UNREPENTANT sinful behavior that seeps into the leadership of the church will have a negative effect on the entire family
EVERYONE from EVERYWHERE is invited to join us.
Not everyone is invited to LEAD
Investigate the Fruit 9-13
Investigate the Fruit 9-13
I do not expect a FISH to climb a TREE, so I do NOT expect a non-believer to ACT like a believer.
I DO EXPECT a professed believer to act like one
Paul is not asking for perfection.
He is calling out those that CLAIM to be believers and completely deny Jesus by their lifestyle and behavior.
The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today are Christians—those who acknowledge Jesus with their lips and walk out the door and deny him by their live style. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable.

If we honestly make the claim there will be fruit to show
NOT PERFECTION, but sorrow and repentance
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 10:9–10 “9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.”
