What’s your name? How many times have you been asked that question? Your response is the same every time, right? You quickly spout off, my name is... without a second thought. But have you ever considered the fact that our names IMPRINT our identity? Our birth name may carry special family significance, or have a descriptive root meaning, and without even realizing it, the meaning behind our name helps shape who we are. The same thing happens when we receive Jesus as the forgiver of our sins and the leader of our lives. We are IMPRINTED with spiritual names, and those names become our new identity. Join us on Thurs or Suns May 25/29 through June 8/11 as we look at three names God gives us as His children that IMPRINT who we are in Him. Discover how to fully embrace your identity in Christ - the IMPRINTS God has given you.

Imprint: Living Out My Identity As A Soldier

INTRO: (Me)
Who are you? Who I’m I? In our development we start asking that question around the 5th or 6th grade.
Ill: Trouble/Linda - God is going to use you. You are a man of God. Imprint.
(We) Many events, circumstances and people imprint us with an identity. That shaped and molds us to be who we are. When we ACCEPT JESUS… that IMPRINTS us with an identity. a brand new identity!
We are known by the identities imprinted on us. The same is true about our our identities in Christ that He imprinted on us through the Bible. We embrace what we believe about ourselves.
We are SOLDIERS, SONS & DAUGHTERS and AMBASSADORS. Once we believe this we can allow these identities to be imprinted on us to live out in our world. Who are you? Seriously, who are you? Who defines that or decides that? I’m so excited about this series because of the potential it has to imprint on your soul so you can live out your identity in Christ.
What we believe about ourselves IMPRINTS on us an IDENTITY
Our purpose is to move people into a more dynamic relationship with Jesus Christ. We will never move into this dynamic relationship until we allow what God says about us to be imprinted on our souls and then we live out that identity.
(God) God says that we are SOLDIERS. When you ACCEPT CHRIST you become a SOLDIER. If we do not recognize this we have an identity crisis.
Ill: Young Man Enters Boot Camp - Identity crisis. Drill Sargent calls him SOLDIER. He doesn’t fill like a solider but he begins to think act and feel like a soldier.
It’s bigger battle than being in the American armed forces. The stakes are higher. We are in a war. It’s a war waging around us that involves people that will spend eternity somewhere.
We are soldiers protecting the Kingdom but also strategizing and taking Kingdom territory. That why are have a growth mentality and not a fix mentality.
Trans - To live out the identity Christ imprinted on us we are going to study 2 reasons, 3 pieces of advice and 4 marks of a good soldier. Let’s unpack two reasons...
Two Reasons God Imprints On Us The Identity Of Soldier
1.) We have an ENEMY
1 Peter 5:8 NLT
8 Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.
God loves you and the things you love...
Satan hates you and the things you love...
Ultimately our enemy is seeking to destroy souls. The stages are high!
2.) We have been EQUIPPED
Paul writes about this in the book of Ephesians. (Background & Context)
Ephesians 6:10–13 NIV
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
Eph 6:
Ex:Be strong / v. 11 stand / v.12 struggle / v.13 God’s Armor…day of evil comes.
Ex:Be strong / v. 11 stand / v.12 struggle / v.13 God’s Armor…day of evil comes.

Ill - Galatian Battle field - flat land. They where fierce. 100 never lost a battle. Historians said that they fought different. They would bring their families to the battlefield. They fought for their family and the Kingdom they belonged to. WHO ARE YOU FIGHTING FOR?
App: As a parent your number one priority is to keep your family safe. You need to let this imprint on your life. You are a soldier!
It’s even bigger than your family. It is about souls. The stakes are high.

Marks Of A Good Soldier
Attitudes Of A Good Soldier
1. Endures Suffering
2 Timothy 2:3 NLT
3 Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
2 Timothy 2:3 NLT
3 Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
Ex: Following Christ is not easy. Life is about loss. Following Christ is more like battleship than a cruise boat.
2
Suffering will cause you to turn inward. It could cause you to be resentful and bitter. We can’t embrace our identity as a SOLDIER if we turn inward and become resentful towards God and bitter towards people.
1 Peter 4:12–13 The Message
12 Friends, when life gets really difficult, don’t jump to the conclusion that God isn’t on the job. 13 Instead, be glad that you are in the very thick of what Christ experienced. This is a spiritual refining process, with glory just around the corner.
1. Endure Suffering
1 Peter 4:12 The Message
12 Friends, when life gets really difficult, don’t jump to the conclusion that God isn’t on the job.
1 Peter
I’ve discovered that life is hard. When I’m a soldier and I endure suffering I don’t get bitter I bet better.
2.
Again, I cannot act contrary to what I think.
The eternal glory that we are fighting for outweighs any earthly gain.

2. Special Relationships
When you go through something it brings you together.
Relationships aren’t formed they are forged.
3. Single-Mindedness
2 Timothy 2:4 NLT
4 Soldiers don’t get tied up in the affairs of civilian life, for then they cannot please the officer who enlisted them.
They seek to please the commanding officer. Don’t get distracted. Please God or please people?
Love God and love people.
Luke 9:23 NLT
23 Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me.
Wow. Christ is saying, if you want’t to be in my army your have to deny yourself and follow.
4. Submit To Authority
Ex - Context/background
Matthew 8:5–10 NLT
5 When Jesus returned to Capernaum, a Roman officer came and pleaded with him, 6 “Lord, my young servant lies in bed, paralyzed and in terrible pain.” 7 Jesus said, “I will come and heal him.” 8 But the officer said, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come into my home. Just say the word from where you are, and my servant will be healed. 9 I know this because I am under the authority of my superior officers, and I have authority over my soldiers. I only need to say, ‘Go,’ and they go, or ‘Come,’ and they come. And if I say to my slaves, ‘Do this,’ they do it.” 10 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. Turning to those who were following him, he said, “I tell you the truth, I haven’t seen faith like this in all Israel!

Ill - The story goes that a young boy was brought before Alexander the Great for stealing a horse. Alexander saw how young he was and heard his story and decided he would go easy on him. Getting ready to release him, Alexander asked the young boy, “What is your name?” He replied, “Alexander, sir.” Alexander the Great was furious and asked him again, “What is your name?” The boy, this time with fear in his voice said, “Alexander, sir.” In anger, Alexander the Great threw the boy to the ground pointed at him and said, “Boy, change your conduct, or change your name.”
