INTRO—

The Difference a Letter Makes
Ruin a Band/Singer with one letter (removing or changing)
The Eatles (Eagles or Beatles)
The Whom (Who)
Chef (Cher)
The Polite (Police)
The Peach Boys (Beach Boys)
The description of Jesus’ essence (substance) in relationship to the Father
Homoiousios — similar essence
Homoousios — same essence
[the difference, ‘spelling,’ is one letter; the difference theologically is false teaching v. truth.]
John 14:8–11 ““Lord,” said Philip, “show us the Father, and that’s enough for us.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been among you all this time and you do not know me, Philip? The one who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I speak to you I do not speak on my own. The Father who lives in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Otherwise, believe because of the works themselves.” [U = vv 8-9]
Nicene Creed
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ…
God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father; through him all things were made
**TRINITY…

WE BELIEVE: [Jesus…God from God…], Light from Light, True God from True God

GOD
John 1:1–2 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.”
LIGHT
John 1:6–9 “There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify about the light, so that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but he came to testify about the light. The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.”
TRUE GOD
John 5:14–18 “After this, Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, “See, you are well. Do not sin anymore, so that something worse doesn’t happen to you.” The man went and reported to the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well. Therefore, the Jews began persecuting Jesus because he was doing these things on the Sabbath. Jesus responded to them, “My Father is still working, and I am working also.” This is why the Jews began trying all the more to kill him: Not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal to God.” [U = vv 17-18]
THE TRINITY (Father, Son, & Holy Spirit described as God)
Father
Philippians 1:2 “Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”
Son
John 20:28 “Thomas responded to him, “My Lord and my God!””
Holy Spirit
Acts 5:3–4 ““Ananias,” Peter asked, “why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the proceeds of the land? Wasn’t it yours while you possessed it? And after it was sold, wasn’t it at your disposal? Why is it that you planned this thing in your heart? You have not lied to people but to God.””

Begotten, Not Made

BEGOTTEN
1 John 4:9 “God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his one and only Son into the world so that we might live through him.” [John 3.16]
NOT MADE
Micah 5:2 “Bethlehem Ephrathah, you are small among the clans of Judah; one will come from you to be ruler over Israel for me. His origin is from antiquity, from ancient times.”
John 1:18 “No one has ever seen God. The one and only Son, who is himself God and is at the Father’s side—he has revealed him.”

One Being with the Father

John 10:24–25 “The Jews surrounded him and asked, “How long are you going to keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly.” “I did tell you and you don’t believe,” Jesus answered them. “The works that I do in my Father’s name testify about me.”
[John 10:26–29 “But you don’t believe because you are not of my sheep. My sheep hear my voice, I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all. No one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.” ]
John 10:30–31 “I and the Father are one.” Again the Jews picked up rocks to stone him.”
[John 14:9 “Jesus said to him, “Have I been among you all this time and you do not know me, Philip? The one who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?”]

CONCL—

AND SO…
THE TRINITY (Focal scriptures)
Baptism of Jesus
Matthew 3:16–17 “When Jesus was baptized, he went up immediately from the water. The heavens suddenly opened for him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming down on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased.””
The Great Commission
Matthew 28:19–20 “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.””
Apostolic Blessing
2 Corinthians 13:14 “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”
IMPORTANCE (IMPACT) OF THE TRINITY (Carson, Piper, & Keller [TGC vid]; we can’t get this wrong — like Wm P Young, The Shack & soon to be released sequel, Return to the Shack)
Creation (“Through him all things were made”)
Colossians 1:16 “For everything was created by him, in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities— all things have been created through him and for him.”
John 1:3 “All things were created through him, and apart from him not one thing was created that has been created.”
Atonement (Grace)
John 1:14–16 “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We observed his glory, the glory as the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John testified concerning him and exclaimed, “This was the one of whom I said, ‘The one coming after me ranks ahead of me, because he existed before me.’ ”) Indeed, we have all received grace upon grace from his fullness,”
Love (primacy of = emphasized of God before creation [from John Piper])
John 17:24 ““Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, so that they will see my glory, which you have given me because you loved me before the world’s foundation.”
[John 17:25–26 “Righteous Father, the world has not known you. However, I have known you, and they have known that you sent me. I made your name known to them and will continue to make it known, so that the love you have loved me with may be in them and I may be in them.”” ]
