Call to worship

Say: Let us now begin to worship the Father the Son, the Holy Spirit, Our Call to worship Comes to us from

Psalm 18:49–50 ESV
49 For this I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations, and sing to your name. 50 Great salvation he brings to his king, and shows steadfast love to his anointed, to David and his offspring forever.

Introduction

This section of the text has possibly one of the most favorite verses of Christians everywhere.
Athletes, singers, celebrities, influencers, this is a huge verse. Phil. 4:13
Philippians 4:13 NKJV
13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
I’m not going to say that doesn’t apply to those actions, but the issues is that God has given you the means to get through life.
This is a promise of God for you note this in your bible.

Text

Philippians 4:10–18 NKJV
10 But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at last your care for me has flourished again; though you surely did care, but you lacked opportunity. 11 Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: 12 I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. 13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. 14 Nevertheless you have done well that you shared in my distress. 15 Now you Philippians know also that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church shared with me concerning giving and receiving but you only. 16 For even in Thessalonica you sent aid once and again for my necessities. 17 Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that abounds to your account. 18 Indeed I have all and abound. I am full, having received from Epaphroditus the things sent from you, a sweet-smelling aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well pleasing to God.

Background and teaching

Paul is starting to land the plane of his letter and thanking the Philippians for their partnership in the gospel and he teaches on of the most beautiful promises in the book

Key verse to our text

Philippians 4:13 NKJV
13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

His Provision for Every Moment

His provisions, his strength is what you need at every momment
Philippians 4:11–12 ESV
11 Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned, in whatever situation I am, to be content. 12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.
God’s provision will create in you contentment.
When your life is found in christ, not in the world when the world is up, your fine, when the world is bad you’re fine.
Your life is grounded on Jesus.
Today our world puts value on if you are happy. The problem is that life often doesn’t give us happy days every day.
Given the effects of sin on the world, on ma, on ourselves we have to seek contentment outside of ourselves.
Paul Teaches that he can find contentment in every situation because he finds his provison, his hope, he peace and rest in Jesus.

Application:

One of my favorite hymns has the lyrics “My hope is built on nothing less”
You Christian have had your sins forgiven. This is the closest to hell you will ever experince. The fall, sin, and it’s effects are the worst that you will ever exerpince.
Jesus walked in perfect righteouness and imputed, credited it to you, and took on himself your sin, he swapped his righteousness for your sin. He gave you his reward for your just destruction.
He took God’s wrath from you and gave you God’s blessings.
When you keep in mind what has been done. you learn to not trust Even the Sweetest frame’ but wholly trust in Jesus name.
Ask yourself are you trusting in the strength of Christ in the good and bad times?

His Provision is Enough

You can see Paul Confidence in the Lord
Philippians 4:13 NKJV
13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
That is because his provision is enough. Paul had been through it all in his ministry, ship wrecked, hated, stoned, imprisoned, rejected by his own people the jews.
Jesus is enough.
Let me use scripture to open up the meaning of this text more
In my devotions this week I cam across this:
Micah 5:4–5 ESV
4 And he shall stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God. And they shall dwell secure, for now he shall be great to the ends of the earth. 5 And he shall be their peace.
To quote Spurgeon on this passage:
Morning and Evening Morning, August 19

Wherever Christ is, there is God; and whatever Christ does is the act of the Most High.

Micah is written to encourage Israel to repentance in light of the coming messiah.
Jesus in our passage is the Shepherd-king, He loves his flock, he care for his flock, he command his flock, he leads his flock. His flock obeys his voice, his flock knows his voice, He leads by his love.
You and I are his flock that he cares for, that he strengthens
The Lord isn’t passive or shrinks from providing for you

“Shall stand”

Shepherds at that time would run from danger, Jesus will not. You can do all things because God stands for you.
Have you ever been in trouble, been accused and someone stood up for you?
Your God does that.
This is a great model for your life btw.

Shall… Shepheard or Feed,

Jesus himself will tend to you. He will not pause his actions on your behalf.

The time limit

Shall Stand and feed, notice it doesn’t say until 5 PM Friday. He doesn’t stop in his strengthening provision.

He shall be their peace (v5)

Peace is Shalom he will bring completeness to your life, fullness, end of conflict, you will be filled.

How you can be part of God’s Provision

Philippians 4:14–18 ESV
14 Yet it was kind of you to share my trouble. 15 And you Philippians yourselves know that in the beginning of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, no church entered into partnership with me in giving and receiving, except you only. 16 Even in Thessalonica you sent me help for my needs once and again. 17 Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit. 18 I have received full payment, and more. I am well supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God.
The Philippian church was not a wealthy church, it was humble, the Thessalonican church was actually very wealthy.
Yet they gave to God’s mission out of their humility.

Look what God did with their gift

You have a whole book of the Bible because of their giving.
The same was true of Luke and the book of Acts. God used the abundance he had provided these people and we receives the divine dividend. Is your favorite verse from this book? Thank a poor Philippian. Do you love the writings of Paul? The gave to the great apostle missionairy.

Application Are you really talking about Giving?

We talked about Socialism last week and now we are talking about money this week!
The beauty of expository preaching, line by line preaching is that I don’t pick the topics, they just come up!

Here are a few practical things about giving

The heart of a giving Christian Cheerful giving

2 Corinthians 9:7 ESV
7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
You must determine what you will give, you have to deside.
Our verse here teaches two things
ONE that we each must decide what to give for ourselves. You and your family must look at your heart and decide what is right. For where your money is, so is your true thoughts
TWO when you have come to a place to give, do so with joy.
Giving is worship. We have our giving time before the sermon so we don’t trigger the tipping mechanism. Many churches have giving after the sermon as studies have shown giving goes up!
I don’t feel that is right for us as a church.
Bee ridge recognizes that giving is worship, I want you to go before the Lord and give as you are led by the Holy Spirit.
Hear me you are called to give in some way.
Salvation is free, but the power bill is not.
God has a plan for what he has given you! Look at your expenses online and you will see what you really love.

God will multiply your gifts

This is Spiritual advise. If someone tells you that your return on investment would be 1000% run away!
Jesus teaches this:
Luke 19:11–17 ESV
11 As they heard these things, he proceeded to tell a parable, because he was near to Jerusalem, and because they supposed that the kingdom of God was to appear immediately. 12 He said therefore, “A nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and then return. 13 Calling ten of his servants, he gave them ten minas, and said to them, ‘Engage in business until I come.’ 14 But his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to reign over us.’ 15 When he returned, having received the kingdom, he ordered these servants to whom he had given the money to be called to him, that he might know what they had gained by doing business. 16 The first came before him, saying, ‘Lord, your mina has made ten minas more.’ 17 And he said to him, ‘Well done, good servant! Because you have been faithful in a very little, you shall have authority over ten cities.’
I don’t take this to be just spiritual blessing, Jesus is using PHYSICAL words.
Right now Jesus, the king is out securing our blessing before the father, prepping for his return, he has secured the kingdom by the cross. He has given us in the meantime to do something.
What you do with what he has given you, he will give back to you more then you can imagine.
This you can bank on, you can’t keep God’s wealth, but you can send it ahead through his kingdom.
Bee Ridge is 100 years old, God has done 100 years of ministry and saving through this church. You can be part of the next 100.
I’m seeking a greeting team, a follow up team, youth workers, a parking team, a setup team, a security team. I believe God is calling bee ridge to the next level again. I truly believe God is calling us to something bigger. I see a new church building on our property where we have or education building. I see the hiring of a worship leader.
You can be part of that God is calling us to this today.

God’s Provision of the Supper

God has provided a way to strength you. He isn’t goign to call us to his plans without providing himself for us.
My favorite Lord’s supper passage is from 1 Corinthians 11:23–26
1 Corinthians 11:23–26 ESV
23 For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
Paul provides some commentary on this afterwards
v27 Examine yourself to be worthy
v29-30 you are eating spiritual food, bread alone doesn’t kill.
v30 those kept from the supper are weak, the supper brings strength.
This strength, strengthens you as we wait the Lord’s Return.

The Gospel

How to have peace, give the gospel
DO THE SUPPER
