John Chapter 3

V1 Nicodemus was a highly respected, wise, religious leader, who would've ran religious law like the supreme court and leadership. pharisee where strict and legalistic. wealthy people. A Pharisee was responsible for helping the people to live out gods law daily.

They confronted Jesus last chapter after the Righteous crash out!

??Why do you think Nicodemus came to Jesus at night? What might that tell us about where he was spiritually or socially?

V2 He came at night (nic at night) because if he was seen with Jesus they might turn against Nicodemus and there would be punishments. Remember the beginning I gave the example of apasynagogus aka excommunicate from family, society, worship etc. Nic was scared of this.

Yet Nicodemus recognizes Jesus as being from God

V3 the word here “again” is best translated “from above”

V5 The Kingdom of God is referring to the physical kingdom of God

Luke 17:20–21 “Being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them, “The kingdom of God is not coming in ways that can be observed, nor will they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or ‘There!’ for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.””

But there are times when its used to explain the kingdom of Heaven (Mark 10:23-25)

Born water and the Spirit. Water is rejected to be baptism by most scholars. Water is most likely either a reference to Ezekiel 36:25–27. the sprinkling of water for cleansing or its an analogy of water breaking meaning you must be born physically first.

I believe its being born of Water is possibly and physical birth but mainly this sentence is emphasizing the being born of the spirit.

V8 You cant see the spirit move, you cant see the wind move. You can feel the effects of the spirit, you can feel the effects of wind. YOU BELIEVE IN THE WIND!

V9-13 Jesus is saying you've seen all we have done and yet you don’t believe so how can i tell you about the secrets of heaven?

V14 Numbers 21:4–9 “From Mount Hor they set out by the way to the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom. And the people became impatient on the way. And the people spoke against God and against Moses, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and we loathe this worthless food.” Then the Lord sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people, so that many people of Israel died. And the people came to Moses and said, “We have sinned, for we have spoken against the Lord and against you. Pray to the Lord, that he take away the serpents from us.” So Moses prayed for the people. And the Lord said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent and set it on a pole, and everyone who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live.” So Moses made a bronze serpent and set it on a pole. And if a serpent bit anyone, he would look at the bronze serpent and live.”

Jesus was lifted up on the cross in place on where we should be for our sins. Jesus gave us the best deal in History. He took our sinful death and we get His perfect life, even though we live the sinful life and He lived the perfect life. 2 Corinthians 5:21 “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

V16 - Read

V19 - the light… this is from John 1:4 “In him was life, and the life was the light of men.”

??After V21 - . What is something in your life, that your allowing to remaign in darkness? that one sin that one secret? Satan loves what remains in darkness how can you release that?

1 John 1:7–9 “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

V25-29 This is Beautiful, John is saying that he is Jesus best man. He is not the main person he is just there for the Bride groom. Once again giving the glory to Jesus!

V30 - Make this a daily heart posture!!

The 4 Must of the Believer 1) V7 You must be born again 2)V14 Son of Man must be lifted up 3)V30 He but become greater 4) I must become weaker

V31-32 Jesus came from heaven and teaches about heaven yet no one receives His testimony.

V36 - Whoever believes has eternal life, whoever does not obey does not get eternal life
