Introduction
Submission in its biblical sense means voluntarily placing oneself under the authority, order, or direction of another, with an attitude of humility, respect, and obedience.
Literally, the idea is "to place or arrange under."
The English word submission carries the idea of:
-yielding to authority
-placing oneself under another's authority
-accepting direction or correction
-voluntarily giving up one's own insistence
-recognizing and respecting proper order
-voluntarily place oneself under an established order
-Biblical submission is not inferiority. It is primarily about order and relationship to authority.
Submission and your ability to receive correction is your key to deliverance.
Rebellion is the cause of Christians with demons.
Rebellion is why Christians are delayed.
Spiritual Authority
Spiritual Authority
Pattern of submission in the Godhead.
For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.
Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.
Jesus submits to the Father.
Holy Spirit hears and tells it to you- glorifies Christ.
We likewise submit to God- and know God as both a Father and a Bridegroom/Husband.
For your Maker is your husband, The Lord of hosts is His name; And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel; He is called the God of the whole earth.
Sons & Daughters to Fathers.
Wives to Husbands.
God is relational and all relationships require submission.
We are called to submit to one another.
Submission to spiritual authorities is your protection.
Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.
We need GODLY authority in our lives. We need accountability. Or wolves can deceive you.
Having no covering or submission is contrary to who God is. We are called to be like him.
You cannot grow without submission.
Human nature is rebellious. My myself and I.
Satan didn’t want to submit. He wanted to rule in God’s place.
When you cannot submit to authority you act like Satan.
EVERYONE has to submit to SOMEONE. Family, work, ministry etc.
This is why we have a lot of issues in the church. There is not enough submission and accountability.
Abigail > Nabal > David
Now when Abigail saw David, she dismounted quickly from the donkey, fell on her face before David, and bowed down to the ground. So she fell at his feet and said: “On me, my lord, on me let this iniquity be! And please let your maidservant speak in your ears, and hear the words of your maidservant. Please, let not my lord regard this scoundrel Nabal. For as his name is, so is he: Nabal is his name, and folly is with him! But I, your maidservant, did not see the young men of my lord whom you sent. Now therefore, my lord, as the Lord lives and as your soul lives, since the Lord has held you back from coming to bloodshed and from avenging yourself with your own hand, now then, let your enemies and those who seek harm for my lord be as Nabal. And now this present which your maidservant has brought to my lord, let it be given to the young men who follow my lord. Please forgive the trespass of your maidservant. For the Lord will certainly make for my lord an enduring house, because my lord fights the battles of the Lord, and evil is not found in you throughout your days. Yet a man has risen to pursue you and seek your life, but the life of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of the living with the Lord your God; and the lives of your enemies He shall sling out, as from the pocket of a sling. And it shall come to pass, when the Lord has done for my lord according to all the good that He has spoken concerning you, and has appointed you ruler over Israel, that this will be no grief to you, nor offense of heart to my lord, either that you have shed blood without cause, or that my lord has avenged himself. But when the Lord has dealt well with my lord, then remember your maidservant.” Then David said to Abigail: “Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, who sent you this day to meet me! And blessed is your advice and blessed are you, because you have kept me this day from coming to bloodshed and from avenging myself with my own hand.
Abigial stood in the gap as being 1 flesh with her husband.
She walked in honour and submission while still navigating a situation where her husband sinned.
The culture of honour she walked in- saved her household, and God deal with Nabal.
Temptation of Jezebel
Temptation of Jezebel
Jezebel’s manipulation and rebellion.
And Ahab [already depressed by the Lord’s message to him] came into his house [more] resentful and sullen because of what Naboth the Jezreelite had said to him; for he had said, I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers. And he lay down on his bed, turned away his face, and would eat no food. But Jezebel his wife came and said to him, Why is your spirit so troubled that you eat no food? And he said to her, Because I spoke to Naboth the Jezreelite and said to him, Give me your vineyard for money; or if you prefer, I will give you another vineyard for it. And he answered, I will not give you my vineyard. Jezebel his wife said to him, Do you not govern Israel? Arise, eat food, and let your heart be happy. I will give you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.
Jezebel identifies Ahab’s emotional vulnerability
Questions his authority
Offers to solve the problem for him
Uses his authority to do so
Difference: Abigail stood in the gap for her husband > Jezebel used her husband to satisfy her need for control and power.
And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, also how he had executed all the prophets with the sword. Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.”
Jezebel used her words to intimidate someone else.
She used emotional manipulation. Witchcraft.
Convincing someone to do something you want them to do, that they don’t want to do, by emotionally pressuring or manipulating them is witchcraft.
Jezebel had a submission problem. She was domineering.
Reasons women find it hard to submit- and can open a door to Jezebel.
Fear of rejection, betrayal, and mistreatment.
Self protection. “I am strong” “I am indepentant” “I don’t need anyone” “I can do it myself”
Father issues.
Jezebel targets fatherless women- women who are uncovered (unsubmitted in their hearts, even if it apprears so outwardly).
Jezebel had no covering. She did not allow herself to be covered. She called all the shots, even using Ahab’s name.
We feel the need to be high and lofty because we are attempting to protect ourselves instead of allowing ourselves to be protected.
I didn’t want kids or a husband because I didn’t want to submit to a man
I write not these things to shame you, but as my beloved sons I warn you. For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.
That bled into ministry where I would skip around in too many places and couldn’t be fully submitted.
Tearr down the protective personalities and allow your Father to protect you, and allow yourself be surrounded by a Godly covering.
Protective personalities is fear.
