Adoration And The Importance Of Prayer

Why do we pray?

The word pray/prayer is mentioned 322 times in the Bible (ESV)

There are around 650 recorded prayers in the Bible

Matthew 6:6

When you pray, not if you pray

1 Thessalonians 5:17

Pray without ceasing

Philippians 4:6 (ESV)

“6do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”

The ACTS prayer model

Based on the Lords Prayer with thanksgiving added

Adoration: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”

Confession: “And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.”

Thanksgiving was added for the letter T, as prayer is to be a daily part of a Christ-follower’s life, and “in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving,” we are to present our requests to God. Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV).

Supplication: “Give us today our daily bread.”

Not a rule but a tool and outline for prayer

Adoration

Psalm 8

Psalm of David

Great example of adoration

v.1 “Oh YHWH, our adon”

We often forget adoration in our prayer
