King James Version Chapter 12
Numbers 12:1-2
YOUR AMBITION MAYBE SELFISHNESS NOT GOD DRIVEN
YOUR AMBITION MAYBE SELFISHNESS NOT GOD DRIVEN
Making plans without acknowledging God’s sovereignty—confidently declaring future business ventures without submitting to “if the Lord wills” (James 4:13–16)—exemplifies the problem. The rich fool who tears down barns to build larger ones, telling himself to “relax, eat, drink, celebrate,” faces God’s rebuke when his life is demanded that very night (Luke 12:16–21). Paul warns against “selfish ambition” and “empty conceit” (Phil 2:3–8), while “bitter jealousy and selfish ambition” belong to earthly, unspiritual wisdom that produces “disorder and every evil practice” (James 3:13–16).
The fundamental problem is that though many plans exist in human hearts, “the purpose of Yahweh will be established” (Prov 19:21). A person’s own way and steps are not truly their own to direct (Jer 10:23), yet people often see their own ways as pure while God weighs the spirit (Prov 16:1–3).
