Is this the end? Has the Tribulation begun? Is there one present day politician who is the Antichrist? Is there one piece of technology that qualifies as the mark of the Beast? Last week I ended with this question, so I am going to pick things up here and try to give an answer that doesn’t stumble into date setting, but does allow us to look at the “Signs” from a biblical view to give us a heart of understanding and a sense of urgency so we are not caught unaware. I am going to explain my approach not only so you understand my viewpoint, but because it will give you a clear thought process to decide if you agree with my observations and conclusions.
First, for preterists who claim that all scripture and prophecy has been fulfilled in the days surrounding the 70 A.D. destruction of the Temple, there is a profound amount scriptures and of unfulfilled prophecies that quickly dismiss that interpretation. Unfortunately I don’t have time to list them here, but much of what I will talk about today should be enough to make that argument.
Secondly, for those who are dogmatic about the Rapture, I am looking at this from a Futurist, Pre-Millennial, Post-Tribulation perspective. I hate to use doctrinal terminology because I come to my understanding through simply reading the bible, asking for the Holy Spirit to enlighten the Word, and through prayer. But I want to make myself clear so no one has to guess about what I believe or what I am saying. I understand there are people who will disagree with me on these issues and all I ask is rather than dismiss what I am saying, go back and reread the scriptures with this in mind and see if you come away with a new perspective. Allow me to explain what my position is exactly. The trajectory toward Christ’s return unfolds through escalating global instability and the rise of authoritarian power structures that precede His intervention.
This causes a Convergence Toward Antichrist Rule
The futurist framework anticipates the tribulation, the Antichrist’s emergence, Israel’s salvation, Christ’s return, and the millennium as events awaiting future fulfillment. They haven’t happened yet. Pre-millennialists generally expect a one-world ruler—the antichrist—accompanied by a false prophet and the beast. Yeshua will return to vanquish this ruler and his system, and will set up His kingdom and rule from Jerusalem for 1000 years. After which He brings for the New Heaven and the New Earth. Modern indicators pointing toward this consolidation include: the acceleration of the structures of global governance , technological surveillance and monetary systems enabling unprecedented control, and the erosion of national sovereignty. These developments create the infrastructure through which a charismatic figure can plausibly establish the totalitarian beast system described in Revelation.
The Post-Tribulation perspective holds that God will not spare His people from tribulation, but will allow it to happen, comparable to the early Christian persecution under Rome and other persecutions continually throughout history. For instance the Islamic and Communists persecutions happening across the globe today, and starting to happen in the US as we speak. Ask yourself if like me, you see as I do the following signs. Escalating religious persecution, economic instability, geopolitical fragmentation, weather events, and moral deterioration? All of which align with the “birth pangs” Jesus described—intensifying pressures that lead to the tribulation, and culminate in the final three-and-a-half-year period of unprecedented suffering.
Imminence Without Predictability
The events in Revelation are linked with imminence, meaning they could occur at any moment, requiring spiritual readiness; these warnings remain relevant for all generations, even if Christ’s coming is delayed. 1 The Second Coming could be imminent—potentially today—a perception Christ wanted believers to maintain through constant anticipation of His return. 2 From this vantage point, current geopolitical crises, technological breakthroughs enabling global control, and the fragmentation of traditional institutions represent the scaffolding upon which the final drama unfolds. The post-tribulational framework demands vigilance without date-setting—recognizing that believers will witness the tribulation’s crescendo before experiencing Christ’s return at the tribulation’s end, which will inaugurate the millennium as a period of peace where Jesus rules from Jerusalem.3
