Quick Context: Same as the last couple weeks.

Text

Verse 1: The chapter begins with a command, to look. Observation of what God is doing will be a major theme of this text.
The person looking is a person who pursues righteousness (sedeq). What is righteousness. How is the righteousness of the OT seen in the NT.
Why a metaphor of rock carving, (no easy task)
Verse 2: Again the command to look, now we are told what to look at. Abraham and Sarah. God give the reason to look to them…what is that reason.
What is the promise to Abraham and why is the fulfillment supernatural?
Bless: bârak, baw-rak'; a primitive root; to kneel; by implication to bless God (as an act of adoration), and (vice-versa) man (as a benefit); also (by euphemism) to curse (God or the king, as treason):
Multiply: râbâh, raw-baw'; a primitive root; to increase (in whatever respect):—(bring in) abundance
Verse 3: God is now the actor he will comfort Zion, by comforting wasted places.
Wilderness to Eden
Desert to Garden
Outcome of God acting will be joy, gladness, thanksgiving and song
Verse 4: Continued command to be observant of God acting. Emphatic command in that there is poetic repetition.
Law: Torah
Justice: Mispat
Light: Or
Christological Fulfillment: Where in the NT do we see this in Jesus?
Verse 5: Noun and verb:
Righteousness/draws near
Salvation/goes out
Coastlands/hope
Arms/judge
Verse 6: Once again the command to observe
What is observed and why?
The temporal
The Eternal
