Life History

Roy Dale Dockery, born on September 22, 1950 in Trenton, MO, to his parents—Juanita (Hunt) and Wayne Dockery. Roy went home to be with our Lord, August 1, 2026, at the age of 75 years, 10 month, and 10 days, with his loving wife, Judy at his side.
Roy was a veteran of our US armed forces, serving in the Army in the Vietnam War. In his time in the military, he received the National Defense service medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, and the Vietnam Service Medal. He was classified as an expert with the M-16 rifle and with grenades.
In March of 1978, Roy met the love of his life, Judy. Six months later they married on August 21, 1978…in the great state of Oklahoma. They were married for 48 years and had a deep love and respect for each other.
Roy loved computers and was good at his craft. If you has a computer problem or question, he was ready and excited to help. He would educate everyone around him with the knowledge he had acquired teacing himself various aspects of computing, including programming languages, etc. He eventually went back to college and earned an associate’s degree with computer science being his major.
In more recent years, Roy took up an interest in woodworking, making things in his garage. He took on projects for his neighbors, the community, and our church.
Speaking of church, Roy and Judy are a blessing as members of our Claycomo Baptist Church family. They have been a constant source of encouragement in our life together. Roy enjoyed participating in the choir, and he helped with other projects, too.
Roy was a great husband, and neighbor, and friend, and brother-in-Christ to those that new him in those various ways. He will be missed by all of us who loved him.
To be absent from this body—for a follower of Christ—is to be present with our Lord. I believe that my brother-in-Christ is enjoying that very truth right now.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents and various family members. He is survived by his wife, Judy, his half-sister, his cousin, our current church family, and many friends.

Scripture – Psalm 23

Psalm 23 CSB
A psalm of David. 1 The Lord is my shepherd; I have what I need. 2 He lets me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside quiet waters. 3 He renews my life; he leads me along the right paths for his name’s sake. 4 Even when I go through the darkest valley, I fear no danger, for you are with me; your rod and your staff—they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Only goodness and faithful love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord as long as I live.

Encouragement – Memories, Stories

My Stories
When he saw my wife… “Here comes trouble!”
Sharing his stories of his military service (Doing what it took to stop a group of soldiers from walking into an ambush)
Sharing stories of getting in trouble in his younger days as a kid (at school and with Mom)
Dealing with “those kids” at the movie theater at which he worked…and not putting up with their nonsense!
Making a template for the “Taxis” we used for many years to advertise our VBS.
His good (& many times self-deprecating) humor. That smile.
Message – John 14.1-6
John 14:1 “Don’t let your heart be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.”
At times when we are troubled—including the death of a loved one—we have one in whom we can place our faith that he is with us and he is able to carry us through.
John 14:2 “In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?”
John 14:3 “If I go away and prepare a place for you, I will come again and take you to myself, so that where I am you may be also.”
Jesus, our Lord, our God…has prepared a place for us to be—HEAVEN—and to be with HIM forever…More peacefully, more joyfully, more amazingly than the amazing gift of his presence with us as believers now!!
John 14:4 “You know the way to where I am going.”
He also made the way and showed us the way to the Father.
John 14:5 “Lord,” Thomas said, “we don’t know where you’re going. How can we know the way?”
I love Thomas…his genuine honesty and courage to ask the question (to admit he’s not sure in this moment…and at lest one other).
John 14:6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Jesus is so wonderfully gracious to Thomas (and to any of us, too). In this moment he turns to Thomas and speaks to him this encouraging reminder of this important truth…He is the way, the truth, and the life…the only way any of us is reconciled to the Father — TRULY OUR HOPE IN LIFE & DEATH!
It’s simply a great reminder of God’s Amazing Grace…
