Some of us brace for the next bad thing so constantly that we forget how to receive good. Psalm 23 meets us there: the Lord is our Shepherd, so lack is not our lord; we’re not abandoned in the valley; and God sets a table before us even with enemies at the door. This message invites us to stop bracing and trust that goodness and mercy are on our trail—our Shepherd is good to the end.
