What does it mean to be "All In" at The Grace Place?

We don’t get to pick and choose what Kind of Christian we want to be. Scripture paints a clear picture for… and shows is what it looks like to be all in.

It’s our goal as a church to… mirror that vision…

In this series, we're exploring the heart of our church, the vision and values that define who we are and guide we do. By the way every church should be modeling a version of these things we are going to talk about today…

Here is what I have learned after nearly 30 years of ministry….

We can be easily distracted as a church from the mission of God. We could get caught up doing a lot of things… while missing the heart of God.

Our text for today in 1 Cor. 12:12-27

Paul gives instruction to the early church… the instructions to each churches wether in Corinth, Philippi, Eff-e-sus…

v. 25 is our key verse for today… and the aim for every beleiver in the house is this…

That every member has what.… the same Care for ONE ANOTHER.

This NOT about the Pastors/Deacons/Ministry leaders being caring people…

It’s about the ENTIRE CHURCH…. CARING for ONE ANOTHER…

Right… we aspire to CARE.

This is God's mission, not something we just made up.

When you become part of TGP's family, you're invited into a culture of caring. This isn't about how well the staff cares… it's about how well WE CARE.

Someone say WE CARE.

If we don’t get this today… here’s…

What’s at stake?

Let's look at it on the screen together.

We’ll end up being a church out of focus. Distracted by the seemly important things and miss one of the main things God called us to do.

CARE… other passages might express this by saying… LOVE ONE ANOTHER…

I would like to point out a few practical things I notice about how the early church cared, Why…. because, the are the model for us today.

How should we care… ? Using the early church as our model… IN YOUR NOTES….

We should care by SERVING (1 Cor. 12:25-26)

Yea… we should serve one another…

in v 25 of our text… it says… HAVE THE WHAT?

25b ….the members may have the same CARE for one another. 26 If one member suffers, all suffer TOGETHER;

One should not care more than the other.

Caring is not just a feeling… it’s an action…

We have to STEP up…. to become CARING PEOPLE CARING FOR PEOPLE.

Our vision to CARE… at the Grace Place is so much bigger than our current capacity…

This vision is not for a few it’s for everyone.

I can’t help but think about people like…

SAM Tenajero

This guy is every where serving… where there is a NEED there is SAM.

Here’s Sam’s Story.. he said…

When I was first asked to serve, I was honestly nervous. I wasn't sure if I could do it right. I felt awkward…. what if I messed things up? Plus, I didn't know everyone in the church yet. I worried people might think, "Who is this guy?”

Despite my reservations …. God put right people around me and invited me to step up… he was working in my heart through them so…. I SAID YES… I wanted to be useful to my church.

Sam Said…

Here's the thing… serving doesn't take as much as you think. I serve 2 to 3 hours a week, mostly on Wednesdays and Sundays…. the change in me has been real. I'm more motivated at my job. My co-workers have actually noticed a difference in me. They can see something shifted.

SAM THANK YOU FOR YOUR OBEDIANCE - WE ARE SO PROUD OF THE MAN OF GOD THAT YOU HAVE BECOME>>> YOU ARE AN INSPIRATION TO MAN OF THE MEN IN OUR CHURCH>

Here is the question I believe scripture is inviting us to ask ourselves today…

Question: What are you doing to carry the load?

What do I have to give?

Should I carry more, should I carry less?

I know there are a lot of people here just like Sam… and unsure about getting started…

You have something special to give…

You don't have to serve two to three hours a week like Sam… This is near the max of what people do when it comes to serving.

If you're currently not on a A-Team serving… We have a place for you.

Whether your capacity is to serve 1 or 3 times a month… what you have to give matters.

If you want to learn more about joining a serve team… Come talk to one of these folk at the table in Front of the auditorium at the end of the service today ….

We should care by SHOWING-UP (v. 21)

I’ll paraphrase v. 21 in our text as it describes…

“one can not say to the other I HAVE NO NEED OF YOU”

Church - PEOPLE NEED YOU… Your Presences expresses that you care…

Be present when your people are celebrated…

When they are crying.

When they need counsel.

I can’t help but think about… Elma Gonzalez.

When I became a Christian, I realized showing up to care for people was important. This was Modeled… to me by Lena Tinajero… when she showed up for me when my Husband Mike passed away. She helped prepare meals for me, checked in on me, and invited me to her house. That taught me what it looks like to care

I was inspired to begin to show up for others…

So I started visiting people… who were sick or hurting…. I went to nursing homes, hospitals. I thought, "If my mom or my sister needed someone to visit them, would I want someone to show up?"

One time, my friend Rita was hurting because one of her family members had a serious illness.. I knew I needed to care by showing up.

Elma said… God has taught me… that we should

To think about others, not just ourselves. The Bible says not to forget to visit the widows and fatherless. One day… we might find ourselves wanting someone to visit us.

Visiting others has changed me. It’s brought me so much joy, and I know it brings God Joy too.

Here’s Elmas encouragement to you…

Just take time to visit others, God will do the rest…. We don't always have time to visit in person, but we can call, text, or write a note.

The point is: let them know you're thinking of them and praying for them.

-This ministry has no talent or requirement besides selflessness.

-Showing up just requires giving our time…

Question: Who needs you to show up for them right now, how and when will you do that?

You also must help us With WHAT? PRAYER….

Paul is saying help us with the PRAYER load.

People NEED prayer… the Leaders can not keep up with all the prayer needs…

EVERYONE can CARE by Praying..

I can’t help but think of people like:

VINCE Said…

I first realize that praying with others mattered when I was little…. it was supposed to rain on my birthday. My parents had rented a bounce house, and I was devastated. But my mom and I prayed together, and It didn't rain. The party was wonderful. I learned that God actually listens and answers prayer.

One time… I felt prompted to pray… I was in Germany at a camp… a student came forward for prayer… The Holy Spirit gave me the exact words this young man needed to hear. Without known much… I began to pray that … When I was done praying - he told me this is exactly what he had been struggling with.

Vince Said…

I do my best to make prayer a natural part of my life. Before I walk into any meeting or conversation, I pause and invite the Lord to go with me. I protect time for prayer… even just ten minutes at lunch, five minutes at my water break. It's that simple.

God has taught me so much through my prayer life….

He has taught me… to just pray… and to surrender to his timing… when it comes to when and how God choses to do things thats up to him.

Vince said… to those who are new to this thing…

I remember fearing I would say the wrong thing…. or worrying what people would think…. But then it hit me… prayer is simply about obedience. When you stop making prayer… about you and start making it about obeying the Lord, everything changes. So… Just show up and pray.

We should care by SEEKING (Lk 15:4-5)

Yea we should look out for one another… when a friend is missing or hurting we should SEEK THEM OUT BY LOOK OUT for them.

Lk 15:4-5 says it like this…

“What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.

Jesus is saying… Don’t let people fall by the waist side…

St. John Chrysostom

S 4th century Church Father said this…

“There is nothing colder than a Christian who does not SEEK to save others.”

REPEATE… WOW… THATS STRONG…

Whenever people are NOT in church for an extended period of time… nearly 100% of the time… there is a struggle going on…

One of the people I can’t help but think of right now is…

John Vega -

John call’s me often to say… hey, I haven’t noticed this person in church lately, Im gonna reach out to them.

Or he will say, God has put this person on my heart… is it ok if I reach out to them…

Every time my answer is… John thank you for SEEKING out the people in our church in caring for them…. follow your heart…

One of the things I love about John…

Is he takes it upon himself to check in… and doesn’t leave it up to the STAFF

He Models our vision of Caring people caring for people

It’s a matter of noticing… who is and is not around you…

At your C-Group Gathering

Sitting around you at church.

Or if God puts someone on your heart randomly… follow the prompt and reach out..

People love to turn to morality when it comes to understanding WHO gets to be in heaven…

The question is NOT about morality… its all about what you do with Jesus…

Many of you know Julia has the CALL of God on her life to Youth Pastor

Julia and Jarius have accepted a position as Youth Pastor at ____

Julia grew up in our church as a little Girl…

She Got on fire for Jesus in her late teen years…

She got on Gods’ accelerated growth plan…and what God did in her life in just a couple years was amazing.

Planted in the youth group at that time was a young MAN named Jarius…

The Robertsons found each other in our church God married and became key part of our leadership team.

Leading ministry… in many capacities…Julia served as Intern for Pastor Kris and Bruce… they served faithfully in our youth department and several other areas…

Julia has been working to receive her credentials as a Pastor…

Several of our staff have poured into them over the years… we are SO PROUD OF YOU BOTH…

I know Im not either one of your parents… but I feel like a PROUD PARENT TODAY SENDING OFF THEIR KIDS… These are TEARS OF JOY (IF I CRY LOL)

Someone asked me recently… how do you guys notice that people have not been around for a while?

We meet every week and look through our systems to tell us whether or not people are here.. but our systems are not perfect… then we go to good ole memory. This is also not the best way…

I told this person whenever we gather as a group, or notice someone has not been around on our serve team lately… its always a spiritual prompt to show up SEEK them out.

Ask them, how are you? I haven’t seen you in a while?

So today… if you do NOT know Jesus as your Lord and Savior today is your day…

Salvation Altar Call

I believe Jesus is here today, and He wants to save you. Salvation simply means to deliver or to free. It’s not just about delivering you…

It’s about believing

Believing in Jesus means trusting what He say’s—about sin, and eternal punishment, thats the bad news.

The good news is this… that His death on the cross paid the penalty for our sins, making us right with God.

Ephesians 2:8 reminds us: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.” Salvation requires two things:

1. God’s Grace—His undeserved gift of forgiveness and life because of His love for you.

2. Faith—placing your trust in Him for salvation.

If you’ve never asked Jesus to save you, today is your day. If you’d like ask him… , raise your hand.

I want to invite you to Repeat a prayer after me

· There is nothing magical in this prayer.. it simply is a way of declaring to Jesus what has taken place in your heart.

Tongues & Interpretation

1. To STRENGTHEN the Church (1 Cor14:5)

For prophecy is greater than SPEAKING in TONGUES, unless someone interprets what you are saying so that the whole church will be STRENGTHENED.

Believers, God has operated through this gift today to strengthen you today. Let your faith be strengthened and know that God is in control and using supernatural measures to speak to us.

2. Is a SIGN for unbelievers. (1Cor. 14: 21a, 22)

1 Corinthians 14:21–22 (ESV)

In the Law it is written, “By people of strange tongues and by the lips of foreigners will I speak to this people, and even then they will not listen to me, says the Lord.” Thus tongues are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers, while prophecy is a sign not for unbelievers but for believers.

22 -  So you see that speaking in tongues is a SIGN, not for believers, but for UNBELIEVERS.

The Bible explains to us God has chosen to use this gift to be a sign for you. A sign for what? It is a sign of his realness for those of you who have been doubting or questioning the existence of God. He wants you to know he is REAL and he wants to bring you spiritual life and health. If you're in here today and you don't know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior... he wants you to know he has gone to great lengths to show you his love today. (Great opportunity for a salvation altar call if it fits).
