Great Commission Matthew 29 and Acts 1

Let me give you some background information about where we are going to be doing

Last year we gave you preaching through the Big Biblical Stories

So that you have a basic foundation of the Bible

So that you can go and study it yourself

As a side note you should be reading your Bible and studying your Bible

Then we dove into Acts to get a view of what it looks like for a church and individuals to be on fire, obedient to the Lords calling

Now we move into the spiritual disciplines

That we must be doing those spiritual disciplines if we expect to grow our own personal faith in Christ

That as a member of the church I have a responsibility to be doing those spiritual disciplines so I grow personally so I can help and be productive member of the church

That is where we are headed towards the spiritual disciplines

In light of finishing Acts one question we get to ask ourselves is what has God called us to do

Lets not get into specifics because I know some of you are called to preach, some are called to teach, some are called to children’s ministry, some are called to youth, or missions, or music

But before that each and everyone of us has been called, commanded and commissioned to be obedient to this one thing

If you have been in church for any amount of time then you probably know

Matthew 28:18–20 NASB95

18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

We know this as the great commission

Something churches has been preaching and teaching for a long while and to be quite honest you might get tired of hearing it but it is what we are called to do

We as individuals and as a church are called to fulfill this great commission

This commission is a charge

In fact is was one of the last charges given to those who followed after Jesus

See if in fact Jesus does desire for all men to come to know God personally

1 Timothy 2:3–4 NASB95

3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

IF this is true and since its in the Bible is must be true there is a plan to accomplish this

The first piece of the plan was to choose a people

He was going to use those people to share His message that Jesus saves through an entire world

To the Jew first and then to the gentile

To help spread the Gospel
