Introduction

I want to tell you a story about God's promises.
Today We are cover a topic that needs it’s own sermon series The promise of God
Spurgeon in his devotional “The Chequebook of the Bank of Faith: Being Precious Promises Arranged for Daily Use with Brief Comments”
Wrote this in the preface:
The Chequebook of the Bank of Faith: Being Precious Promises Arranged for Daily Use with Brief Comments Preface

A PROMISE from God may very instructively be compared to a cheque payable to order. It is given to the believer with the view of bestowing upon him some good thing. It is not meant that he should read it over comfortably, and then have done with it. No, he is to treat the promise as a reality, as a man treats a cheque.

He is to take the promise, and endorse it with his own name by personally receiving it as true. He is by faith to accept it as his own. He sets to his seal that God is true, and true as to this particular word of promise. He goes further, and believes that he has the blessing in having the sure promise of it, and therefore he puts his name to it to testify to the receipt of the blessing.

This done, he must believingly present the promise to the Lord, as a man presents a cheque at the counter of the Bank. He must plead it by prayer, expecting to have it fulfilled. If he has come to heaven’s bank at the right date, he will receive the promised amount at once. If the date should happen to be further on, he must patiently wait till its arrival; but meanwhile he may count the promise as money, for the Bank is sure to pay when the due time arrives.

Some fail to place the endorsement of faith upon the cheque, and so they get nothing; and others are slack in presenting it, and these also receive nothing. This is not the fault of the promise, but of those who do not act with it in a common-sense, business-like manner.

God has given no pledge which he will not redeem, and encouraged no hope which he will not fulfil.

Text

Philippians 4:19 ESV
19 And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

Background and teaching

Key verse to our text

“My God Will” the NKJV uses “Shall” This is key for you today. My God will. This isn’t an English lesson, but hear this word ‘will’ is important. These little words, are words of gold for you.
The promises of God are comforts to his children.
He doesn’t forsake his children, he bears with us in the highs and lows of life. You can bring these promises before the mercy-seat through Christ and your heavenly father will rise to help you.
My prayer today is that the Holy Spirit, the divine comforter will take these handful of promises and use them to be like a balm to your heart. That they would be the very tools of the great comforter to bring you aid!

The Goal for today

Today I want to give you five promises for you. Spurgeon wrote a book that has 365 promises he found, but today I’ll give you five!

Promises for the Soul

It is the promises of God that can guard your heart from the hardships and tempests of life.
Listen to this true story:
There was a French woman who in her youth would make little boxes and write Bible verses that contain promises from God from the Bible. She would write them on a small piece of paper and store them in this box and she called it her promise box.
As a child whenever she needed some encouragement she pull out one of the verses to read over to remember the promises of God.
One day during the second world War she was feeling very discouraged over the events of the conflict.
In her sadness she asked the Lord to give her a word of encouragement, she asked God is there a promise here somewhere to help me?   she looked out her window and accidentally turned over the box of promises she had been making since her childhood.
And she spilled the promises all over the floor. She was looking for one promise and she had well over 50 all over her carpet.  She threw her tears and joy said "Lord how foolish I have been to ask for one promise when there are so many glorious promises in your word!"
A few weeks ago, we covered one of my favoirte promises.
Philippians 4:6–7 ESV
6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
I lived this prayer during the pandemic. I was let go from my ministry with a 4 month old. And as you can imagine no one was hiring.
I had to cling to this promise for my life, for my wife, for my daughter. My God gave this to me to be my aid.
Anixtiy is a weird thing. For me I can get angry, for some they get depressed, some will not eat a thing, some will eat everything, some will get destructive to themselves or others.
This promise it telling us how to get access to it.
Don’t worry, pray, be thankful, speak to your God.
Then that beautiful word “and” shows up. This is a connecting word is a word. It means then then next thing.
You do that and God will give you peace. Not any old peace but peace bigger then you can wrap your mind around, bigger then your hands can hold, more peace then your heart can contain.
And then not only peace
But God guarding your mins and heart.
This is like Proverbs 18:10
Proverbs 18:10 ESV
10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.
They would run two strong towers to protect from enemies. This promise is for you.
Do you need it today? Christian take it put it all around your life!

Promises for Prayer

There are promises for your prayers.
You need to know what your God has said to you.
1 John 5:14–15 ESV
14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.
Now this isn’t saying God is a gumball machine that does exactly what you put the quater in to get. You don’t really see those anymore, now that I think about it.
When you pray in faith God answers.
Ask according to his will.
Know Christian that God uniquely hears your prayers, because he is your father. This is only true of Christians and no one else.
You can approach Jesus boldly in your prayers.
Maybe you are like the women with the bleed and just want to touch his cloak, maybe you are like the friends who destroyed the roof to be near Jesus, maybe you’re like the roman centurion who says “just say the word Lord.” Maybe you’ve been all 3 in your life. know that God answers the prayers of his children.
It’s always yes or no. Even his no’s are better then we deserve.

“And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”—

Promises for Deliverance in times trouble

Are you troubled Ask God to delver you.
Romans 8:28 NKJV
28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
Last weekend James had a Nightmare, so I ran into his room and comforted him at O’Dark 30. The next night I had tucked him in we prayed, and about 37 seconds later I hear him call for me.
I think it’s kids doing kid scams, like “I’m thirsty” Which is the biggest kid scam. Instead he said “daddy can you pray for my dreams.”
And we did, and he had no nightmares. The next more in joy he let us know.
James was delivered from trouble.
Yes God cares about your dreams, and he cares about you. All that you are going through will work out for your good and God’s glory.
He has a purpose for this moment.
Are you dealing with Illness? Heartbreak? A unexpected something?
Grab unto the delivering God Jesus.

Promises for Life

Our Foundation verse today
Philippians 4:19 NKJV
19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Are you worried about the day bread?
The lord takes care of the sparrows, he can take care of you!

Perseverance of the saints

We hold to the old reformational doctrine of Perseverance of the saints. This is like once saved always saved, but it’s more. This is a promise for those who wonder if they are Christian day to day.
John 10:28–30 NKJV
28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. 30 I and My Father are one.”
To the tender soul in the room, stop looking for comfort about your salvation outside the Bible and listen to your Lord.
You are not only saved for good, you are actively held in buy your God.
All of the triune God is active in the maintence and guardianship of your faith.
Jesus is author and perfector.
If you had to be the one who birthed your own faith is would never have happened. If you had to maintain your own faith you would fail.
Jesus has you in his hands, you will not defeat him, the world will not defeat him, the devil will not defeat him.
Trust in him, not your thoughts, your stresses, your emotions. Put those Idols asside, he is God, not you, he has you, not you yourself.

The Promise of the Gospel

I have a promise for those that would be honest enough to say they’re unbelieving , this promise is also for those who claim to stand neutrally to the side observing the Christian faith this is from God for you:
1 Corinthians 1:19 NKJV
19 For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.”
God will bring your positions to destruction. The neutrality, the functional or actual atheist, the man or women worship false gods, your opinions, your neutralities, your false faiths, will be crushed under the king Jesus.
I say this in love. Jesus is the one king who will never break his word.

I have another promise for you.

Proverbs 8:17 NKJV
17 I love those who love me, And those who seek me diligently will find me.
You can have Christ, you can know God. You can be spared the wrath of God, Will you seek him today? Will you love him today?
Not in part, but in whole of your heart. To love him you must love him wholly. The diligent don’t seek in half measures.
We you love him, he will love you without short coming or error!

Benediction

Say: As we close our service of worship dear brother and sister please stand for our benediction and receive by faith this blessing from God

Zephaniah 3:17 NKJV
17 The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.”
