Always Pray

Luke 18:1-8

Illustration was used: - to show a certian truth. Jesus often used illustrations, parabels to show something He wanted to get across. Usually a very well known story or occupation, such as the parable of the sower, seed and crops.

In verse 1 what is the point of this illustration? always maintain an attitude, spirit, understanding of prayer. 2. Not grow weary or give up prayer.

What would cause our prayer life to grow weary?

verse 2 is a description of what? Do you think Jesus is could possible talking about a judges character indirectly? reverence for God and care about peoples rights oppions. Here this judge cared not for God or man.

Application: Can anyone think of a senerio where the situation seemed completely out of Gods hands, providential leading?

in verse 3, who is mentioned? What do we know about widows? why would Jesus use a widow for an illustration? Weak, poor, defenceless, able to be oppressed by those in power.

Avenge me or give me justice: was a cry for or plead to justice which an oppresor was exacting from her. Does not denot vengeance or revenge.

v.4 what is the time table?

v.5 what is the thought conclusion of the judge?

Wears me out / drives me crazy : in the original this word refers to the wounds and bruises caused by a boxer who pounds on their opponets. To give one a black eye.

Ill give her justice before she wears me out.

v. 6 what is Jesus saying here? give attention and bring away some practical applications.

v. 7 what is Jesus saying and teaching here. what is the point? a teaching about a corrupt judge giving justice, wont God a just person give a quck response.

What can we learn from the Widow

by her persaverance only

God is not unjust, He is good, Merciful.

pray day and night

slow - appears to go unanswered - will suddenly answer

v. 7 what is Jesus concerned about?

not with God’s ability to answer

but with Christ followers being discouraged, not praying, no confidence in God, and under difficult times sink to deppression, inactivity.

Last part of v.7 - what is Jesus looking for? could it be the lesson here taught, which is God will respond and bring deliverance, and the widow persevering and believing. Will Jesus find us in all circumstances persevering, praying and believing His goodness and provodience.

Where is your God? when faced with great persicution”
