Week 36 (1st Sunday) – Communion Sunday
This Week's Theme: God Speaks To His People
Word for the Week: Calling — God's gracious invitation and summons for His people to know Him, trust Him, obey His voice, and fulfill His purposes.
Memory Verse: John 10:27  My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.
Sermon Focus: God graciously reveals Himself to His people and calls them to trust His presence, obey His voice, and depend on His power rather than their own ability.
Sermon Passage: Exodus 3:1-6, 11-14; 4:28-31

Exodus 4:28–31 NKJV
28 So Moses told Aaron all the words of the Lord who had sent him, and all the signs which He had commanded him. 29 Then Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel. 30 And Aaron spoke all the words which the Lord had spoken to Moses. Then he did the signs in the sight of the people. 31 So the people believed; and when they heard that the Lord had visited the children of Israel and that He had looked on their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshiped.

I. A COMFORTING VOICE

IN VERSE 1 WE SEE THE FOLLOWING
Exodus 3:1 NKJV
1 Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian. And he led the flock to the back of the desert, and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.
Exodus 3:2 NKJV
2 And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed.
THE ANGEL OF THE LORD APPEARED IN A FLAME OF FIRE,
MOSES KNEW SOMETHING WAS UP BECAUSE
HE LOOKED
THE BUSH WAS ON FIRE
BUT IT WAS NOT CONSUMED
IT DID NOT BURN UP
Exodus 3:3 NKJV
3 Then Moses said, “I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn.”
HE SAID TO HIMSELF
THE HE WOULD TURN FROM HIS DIRECTION
TOWARD THIS GREAT SIGHT
WHEN HE WENT TO SEE
SOMETHING ELSE HAPPENED
LOOK AT VERSE 4
Exodus 3:4 NKJV
4 So when the Lord saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.”
HE SAW A BUSH THAT WAS ON FIRE BUT NOT CONSUMED
AND NOW HE HEARS A VOICE FROM THE BUSH
I HAVE HEARD THAT PLANTS AND FLOWERS LIKE IT WHEN YOU TALK TO THEM
BUT I HAVE NEVER SEEN A
BUSH TALK TO A PERSON
AND NOT JUST TALK
BUT KNEW MOSES’ NAME
THIS ALL KNOWING
ALL POWERFUL
EVER PRESENT GOD
KNEW MOSES’ NAME
Exodus 3:5 NKJV
5 Then He said, “Do not draw near this place. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.”
THEN HE ALLOWS MOSES TO BE
IN HIS PRESENCE
AFTER MOSES REVERENCES AND RESPECTS
THE LORD BY REMOVING HIS SANDALS
WHAT A COMFORTING THOUGHT
THAT THE GOD OF THE UNIVERSE
KNOWS OUR NAME
AND WANTS TO BE IN RELATIONSHIP WITH US
ALTHOUGH
Man is temporary AND God is eternal
Man is dependent BUT God is self-existent
Man is limited in knowledge BUT God is all-knowing
Man is constantly changing BUT God is unchanging
Man is often inconsistent BUT God is faithful
Man is inadequate BUT God is sufficient
DESPITE THE DISTANT
Isaiah 55:8 NKJV
8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.
Isaiah 55:9 NKJV
9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.
THIS GOD CALLS US WITH
A COMFORTING VOICE
DID HE GET YOUR ATTENTION
DID HE CALL YOU OUT OF DARKNESS . . .
DID HE BRING COMFORT TO YOUR LIFE
