Let's pray over our young people in their instructors father we come before you and we thank you for the gift of children. the blessing board We ask God right now that you cover their minds their bodies help them to focus on studying and listening to your word and we know God that you've anointed them and cover them in the blood of Jesus. So wherever they are you were there right now. There is they leave the sanctuary and go into class. We pray for their instructors at their struck instructors. God will be able to pour into them the true word of God. And so Lord as we release them let your spirit go with them be in the classes as they focus on your word and when they come out to report they will all be blessed by what they've learned we give you praise and we thank you in Jesus name. Today we going we going to talk about the power of Jesus Amen the power of Jesus and we going we're going to look at it from a different perspective. Amen.

We're going to look at one of the Bible characters. Shouldn't come characters cuz they're real people wanted individuals that the Bible has historically documented and for a specific reason and his name is Matthew Matthew and we're going to find out a little little bit about Matthew and why would Matthew did is really important for us today? So I need everybody to the kind of work with me here. Amen are foundational scriptures going to come from Matthew chapter 9 beginning with verse 9 and going through verse 13. So if you want to stand if you could stand if you if you can if not, just get with somebody and and we going to read this word together a man Matthew chapter 9 beginning with verse 9 and we're going to go through verse 13 not a new King James translation will be on the screen. But if you have your Bible open up your Bible to Matthew chapter 9, let's read it together versus 9s. Jesus passed on from there. He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office and he said to him follow me. So he arose and followed him verse 10. Now it happen as Jesus said at the table in the house that behold many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples. Verse 11 and when the Pharisees saw it they said to his disciples. Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners first 12 when Jesus heard that he said to them those who are well have no need of a physician but those who are sick finally verse 13, but go and learn what this means I desire mercy and not sacrifice. Why did not come to call the righteous but Sinners to repentance now join me in our confession of faith. I am not move. By what I see. or by what I feel I am moved by what I believe. I believe the word of God the victory is mine. I have it now. I can see it through the eyes of my face. in Jesus name now do me a big favor and let's show God how much we appreciate you open up your mouth and give God some praise Hallelujah.

Thank you Lord. Thank you for this day father. Thank you for blessing us Lord. Thank you. We just prayed you this morning. We just give you glory god you been so good to us and we just honor you this morning with everything that we have. And your precious son Jesus name? Let everybody say man. Hey man, you may be seated in the presence of the Lord. So in Matthew chapter 9 we meet if you read the the scripture you got to meet several groups of individuals. Several groups and several types of individuals one group in Matthew 9 if you read it beginning at the at the top of that chapter are bunch of committed friends who have a friend who's paralyzed. And they go through some things that get their paralyzed friend to Jesus for heel. So who's so in Matthew when you read that you're fine. There's some some some people who really care about their friend who's paralyzed and they and they have faith in Jesus to get get the friend. He'll also in Matthew 9 when you'll find that you don't see the religious folks in chapter 9, you know, the church folks they call him scribes and Pharisees. You also going to find a group of people called tax collectors. And then there was this General. Group of people that refer to a sinner's when you read Matthew chapter 9 you go see the disciples are there some church leaders matter fact one synagogue leader who had a family member died. So so all kind of things happen to all of us. I want to make sure that we are all or none of us are immune from from stuff happening to us. Amen. And then it as you read further in Matthew 9, you'll see some blind men who are seeking mercy and then you run into this this deaf mute this man who couldn't talk who was possessed by devil. That's all in one chapter a man when you read that you'll find all kinds of things in the in Matthew chapter 9 on today is the writer of the book and his name is Matthew. So Matthew to come up here. What is Matthew?

Matthew here's Matthew. Come on up here Matthew.

So, this is Matthew so Matthew here. It's been over here. I want anybody see Matthew now. Matthew wrote this book in in in verses 1 through 8. You see Matthew talking about other folks. It was nice talking about but then when you get down to verse 9 Matthew tells his story. Matthew shares his testimony in Matthew talks about what Jesus did for him now. I got to give you some background because you won't understand when you read that verse why this is so important now Matthew is what the people call the tax collector. element a little bit He was a Jewish man collecting money from the Jews for the Romans.

The Jewish people hated him. They despise him. And there's some reasons why. Is a Jew he served the Roman conquerors? No in that time in that region most Tax Collectors were Jews, but in the people's eyes, he had denied his own heritage. Peter betrayed his own country, so they were detected they were the testing and they completely cut him off from Jewish Society. They actually excommunicated him for Jewish religion and all the Privileges because Matthew cheated Matthew was dishonest and Matthew was unfair now, here's the deal because of the fact that Matthew works for the Romans. Most Tax Collectors were very wealthy. Because the Roman government allow Matthew to charge as much taxes he wanted. So he would do his own people wrong. They would come and have to pay taxes and he would figure out okay, you can give me a little more and he would pocket the money.

So they hated him. They couldn't even refer to him as a person. They called him the tax collector just like they call folks the pimp or the prostitute or the H word or the b word. They don't even become people anymore. They become names titles. How to refer to him not as a person but as this thing called the tax collector they were so done with him Matthew was in and it some point when you start operating and people start talking you to a certain way of talking about you you become that thing.

So he was Matthew in the eyes of his brothers and sisters the Jews violating everything that they believe because they believe the only people who should be paying taxes was God and the high priest not a man, but he was Matthew doing everything but what his people wanted in the do. Are you with me? No teams have name they looked at him as a person. He was this thing called a tax collector. He was considered an Abomination to his own people. We got to get this because if you read that scripture, you will rewrite Pastor did not understand why Jesus came on the scene.

So Matthew was talked about you know, how y'all

We talk about folks who don't line up with what we want. Do you know them people who been out on the street doing drugs and they don't become people they become drug addicts.

Women selling their bodies. They're not people there prostitutes. Liars are liars cheaters. They don't become people anymore. They become these things. That's how we treat each other and that's how the world treats as you become a thing. Matthew was called a tax collector. He wasn't even considered a person because they did tested him so much you got to get this because there's people around you that you have forgotten that they are human beings and you start referring to them as these things. And then they start to act out as you call them. Does that make sense? Matthew was considered the worst. Of all the Sinners or in the in the same group as the worst of all the sinners. Hated despised talked about isolated. That's Matthew. Matthew represents a lot of us before we came to Christ. Amen, thank you Matthew for going through that. I appreciate that.

So now what that backdrop?

in Luke chapter 15 First one what will let me go back. Let me go back cuz I got to get this. in Matthew chapter 9 verse 9 The verse says as Jesus passed on from there. He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office and he said to him follow me. Y'all stay with me.

In Luke chapter 15 verse 1 in the message translation. It says by this time a lot of men and women of doubtful reputation were hanging around Jesus and listening to it in that same translation Luke 15 and 1 in the Amplified. It says now the tax collectors and notorious and especially Wicked Sinners. We're all coming near to Jesus to listen to No. Matthew Wouldn't even consider a person. I want to show you something in the text. Here's what Jesus said in the first line that says as Jesus passed on from there. He saw a man.

Yeah, I miss that. See we see the b word or the H word on the crackhead or not. But Jesus saw the man.

He don't look like we look he don't look at each other. He doesn't look at us like we look at each other. He saw something else. He saw the man. See, sometimes you can't see people cuz they acting out too much. You can't even see the real person there and you started calling them in referring to them as they're acting out but Jesus saw the man.

Are you with me? The Bible says that Jesus passed on he saw a man. Jesus saw what he was doing. He saw where you were sitting Jesus. So I knew everything about Matthew. He saw his heart. He saw his mind Steve know it starts. His fellows hurts to know his pain he was wrong and he realized that Matthew like purpose and meaning in life. How many thoughts do we call the thing or act like that way we referring to that and we realize that they're hurting we can get that they're hurting.

How many family members who going through addicted to this going through this and we forget they're hurting. We were pulling to them. It's all everything else but a man or woman or child of God. But Jesus saw it all. and he still said see a man. Throw throw the pain through all of it being ostracized about Jesus. See a man. I see a man is hurting. A few minutes going through things. I see a man. That's broken. I see a man that has no purpose. I see a man of just existing, but I see a man. She deserves as he walked through knowing that you were sitting at the tax collectors death doing his thing. In the Mist this is how he got his muscles in the midst of your darkest time when you were doing the wrong thing Jesus song you as his child.

Are you with me when I get together and look clicks and talk about each other? Cuz we don't have the eyes of God. We might when you know family members will get on. Y'all know. Can we keep this thing real?

People in your family you're bored and cuz you know what they're doing. Although they are and we forgive. the Jesus season differently Are you with me? so Jesus Solomon He saw a man who needed a savior. He saw a man who needed someone who could meet his every need. It's so Jesus call the man and said follow me.

He didn't play around with it. He said follow me when he said follow me. It was forced forward to the point. He saw me said follow me. He didn't give him time to say question in Civ what about this if hesitations and but this, you know, he said you got to make a decision follow me.

So we receive in the scripture. Jesus directed the term to Matthew in the midst of what he was doing and said follow me and did not give Matthew a chance to Rebus. Some of us Jesus and follow and he's not giving you a chance to go, but or what about this because it's something that you don't know if you don't follow him you may not have a life.

And when Jesus says I need you to act right now. There's it's for a reason he's not giving you time because your time may be over with.

He told Matthew Matthew got the follow me now.

Matthew chapter 11 verse 28 it says company laboring and are heavy laden and I'm going to give you rest so you can have all the money in the world. You can have the cars you can have the fan you can have the fortune. You can be busy doing all kind of stuff and still be empty. Tell her we no response not committing suicide. You would think all men if I had there like you don't know what they going through. Be careful. What you ask for. Does that make sense?

Then Jesus says in verse 11 or chapter 11 verse 29 take my yoke upon you and learn from me from gentle lonely and hard and you will find rest for your soul. For my yoke is easy. And my burden is life. See right now there may be for sitting next to you going through. It looks good on outside. Think they still getting it together and come in the church. You ask him. They say hey, how you doing? I'm doing good brother, but you don't know that they're empty on the inside. You don't know that they're broken on the inside. You don't know what they have to do to get up and get here today, but they made it they made it and that's what we were Joyce said. And Jesus is Calling Us in all areas of our life. to come to him I like what I say assist in chapter 55 first one in minister to me because there are times when things become overwhelming and you never been in that situation where you you just can't figure it out. You don't know what to do. You tried everything you can and it's still the issue is still there. There's a hole on the inside of you that can't be feel something is missing in that space. What you having keep on living. Amen. But I like saying chapter 55. He says wait wait listen. Everyone who is thirsty? Come to the waters and he who has no money come by and eat. He says yes come by Priceless spiritual wine and milk without money and without price in his how you purchase it simply for the self surrender that accepts the blessing. She ain't got a bite. All you got to do is accept it. Amen. So back to Matthew Matthew sitting there Jesus walks by he says follow me Matthews. It has one act. And he did it. He got up and followed Jesus. He got up and followed Jesus and left everything. Sometimes you got to leave everything the stuff that you think is making who you are. If you leaving Jesus got more than you can ever think or imagine. But sometimes we holding on the people and holding on the situation and holding on the circumstances and we can't let it go and when Jesus said if you follow me, I don't replace all of that and give you more.

And I love Matthew Matthew was like to do some men. I'm tired of being hurt. I'm tired of being tired. How to be tired, you know, you just keep going through and going through it no matter what you do you still find yourself. It's not working. I sometimes I get tired of being tired. and then I go to the the scripture in Mark and verse chapter 8 verse 35 and says whoever Desires to save his life will lose it. I'm trying to buy this and do this be seen here and go over here and be here and do this. I'm trying to have my life and do me the Bible says the more you try to do that the more you lose Who You Are. He says but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel will save it. I got to give up some stuff. This ain't working no more. I try the baby is waiting at work for baby, but it didn't work for me a man. Are you with me? You know how we get the following folks and doing what they do and it don't work for you. Hey, man. Yeah, I don't get quiet on me either. This is real. Good. Are y'all like a man? I would she be quiet right now. 21st 36 it says for what will it profit a man if he gain the whole world if you get everything? They they splatter your face all over social media you the number one missing you all of that. Your name is up in lights, but you lose your soul.

Luke chapter 9 verse 23. He says the Bible says then he said to them if anyone desires to come after me let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me is how it looks in the message translation. I did not check this out. He says in verse 33 simply put if you're not willing to take what is dearest to you. Weather plans or people and Kiss It Goodbye you can't be my disciple.

So Matthew sitting at the tax collectors desk with a hard-working man, Matthew one lazy. But he wouldn't satisfy. You ever work hard and you still not satisfy you ever try and try and try and it's just not enough and I'm telling you can have money and cars and homes and close and still be dissatisfied. I know some of yall say well, let me try to let me get to that Amen Let me just try to cook. Okay pastor. Can you let me try it? I want it. I just want to get to that and I know you telling me but at least let me get to that keep going get it. I will guarantee you it's only temporary.

And stuff is designed to be that way. Elusive and that's why no matter what you get. You always want more. Does that make sense?

Now we all know the story of the I know I got to go to Matthew chapter 19, cuz we got to see this this using people and I'm not abusive. I'm a good person. Right? Y'all know them folks and your family are you know that they kind of self-righteous, right? The text is here in verse in Matthew chapter 19 y'all there. Bieber sorry, just follow along with me says now the whole one meaning someone came and said to him saying that Santa Jesus good teacher what good things should I do that? I may have eternal eyes to hear the prom Polk. Always trying to do that one thing and that one thing that I can do don't have to do nothing else and I can go get all the prize. 417 he says so he said to him. Why do you calling me good, don't be trying to butter me up. You got know what you about. You know them folks that come to you talking about sister. You look good today or all brother you right you really know this and you really stop. Are you with me? Why do you call me? Good? No one is good. But one that is God, but if you want to enter into life keep the Commandments and here's how some of us getting this guy said to Jesus. He said which ones

Jesus said okay. You want to play that game you shall not murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You should not bear false witness honor your father and your mother and you shall love your neighbor as yourself the young man said to him got that. All these things I have kept for my you what do I still like, you know them arrogant young people. Now I'm just playing with y'all. I'm just playing with you. I'm coming over there next. verse 21

Jesus said to him. If you want to be perfect go sell what you have and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven and come follow me. was $0.22 but when the young man heard that he went away sorrowful, but he didn't want to give away his stuff.

Then Jesus turned to his disciples and he said assuredly I say to you that it's hard for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven is easy for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. And so that just blew the disciples Mighty verse 25 the disciples heard. It says that he said they were astonished and then who can be safe. If you can't get saved with your money, then who can be saying. Jesus says he looked at them and said with men and they stuff and they money it's impossible. But With God all things are possible.

So I asked this question to you. He didn't want to give up his money. But what are you holding onto?

What are you holding on to the stopping you from following God?

It may not be money. What is it when you look at yourself in the mirror? What's stopping you for truly being sold out my made-up on fire for the Lord?

What's the thing you holding onto? What's the thing when Jesus says follow me you hold your head down and saying.

I don't want to let this go. I don't want to stop this people. You don't understand it. If I did this then who am I?

I've been doing this so long. I don't know anything else. But there's something that you're holding on to. The stopping you from following Jesus.

I'm not talking about the religious stuff where you say I go to church and you check that thing off. I'm talking about Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, not the stuff you do when you come here from

tell me I'll be coming in late. I'm trying to. I'll just messing with you. I'll just have y'all know the past.

The question is what are you holding on to see Matthew committed himself totally to Jesus. Once he follow Jesus didn't turn back he gave up everything. Here's what I found out because of Matthew's conversion. It shows that Jesus will save anyone who will truly follow him and I don't care if they hating on you. I don't care if you bitter because somebody did you wrong I don't care. If you don't call yourself religious, I don't care. If they didn't you you feel unjustified or your year the unjust or whatever the case may be. I don't care if you did satisfied. I don't care if you lonely I don't care if your trailer for the trainer a thief. Or even one who's living with no meaning. She's a lot of folks out there living with no meaning. You just existing.

They wake up every morning. Do the same thing? everyday No Direction. No guidance, what's even worse the latest fad come over to jump over there. Something else come over they jump over there. Then it's over here. If it ain't skinny jeans then it's something else. amen, amen Hey, man.

Wait, let me tell you about skinny jeans.

Skinny jeans say false lies. You know why? Because y'all remember when everything was baggy everybody's putting on a bunch of weight, but you can't be a big person in skinny jeans. So you had to lose some weight and getting them skinny jeans right and save some folks lies.

Let's go back to the tech guy with me. Matthew chapter 9 verse 10 now. It happened as Jesus said at the table in the house that the whole many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples verse 11 and when the Pharisees saw it they said his disciple why is your teacher you would tax collectors and sinners now? Let me tell you what Matthew did as soon as he decided to follow Jesus. He started witnessing.

We now see Matthew not focused on his self, but telling folks about Jesus. The first thing Matthew did not let me tell you all when you really get on fire. No matter what folks think of you first thing Matthew did was remember. I said Matthew had enough money. He had a big house the first thing he did. Was have a party. Yeah, I like how you get that out of there a big house the Bible refers to it as a great feast. And he invited all his friends to his house for feast in a party, but he invited them to meet Jesus.

I think about this think about this you get saved. You won't fire. You got a position where you can invite people in you can bring them in and you can tell him about Jesus that's witnessing. ? He said wait a minute. I can't keep this to myself. I got to let my friend who is going to hell just like me drinking and dinner. I need to let them know that there's a c. Between he said they not going to go to your church or your synagogue, but don't come to my house. She said I'm only inviting them to my house, but guess who else I'm invited to my house Jesus pic on be there to tell them what he did for me. There's a problem with your freaking face and get you.

I'm serious. We have Widow cutest a phone to put yourself on the line for anybody else or I don't think so. That's not politically, correct. I don't know if I can say that I don't matter if they don't tell them about Jesus. Shut up to your house and tell him about Jesus. Tell him about Jesus. That's what Matthew did they not going down to the church for quite trying to get people to come to?

Cuz we're not coming.

Come have coffee with you. You invite him to dinner. That's why you can bite Jesus in and let him know what God did for you.

Listen, let me tell you we don't got this thing twisted and backwards. We don't we believe in and I don't know I got to get them to church. No right way you at at your apartment at your condo at your house and invite some people they're open up the Bible and tell them how Jesus saved you.

And then they'll listen to you and come down to your Worship Center. And we're wondering why churches are in full cuz we doing this thing wrong because religion has told us invite him to church invite him to church invite him to church. This is what you do and buy them. How about you invite them to your house?

All we got quiet then. You don't understand pastor. I'd rather they go out to them. But what did Matthew do? He invited to him to his house. And he didn't bite church folks. You don't get a job with another church event with church supposed to already say and ain't no increase in the king.

if I go to another program for church folks and we just leave that alone.

And I'm not talking about y'all. Don't get me wrong. I'm talking in general. But how many you have invited someone who is hurting? to your house

No, cuz we try to shut that down. We don't want centers in our house. We all save now. We all think the fighter filled with the Holy Spirit. That's why you need to invite them. Hey, man, what good is if you saying that you can't help nobody else come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

In in Luke chapter 5 verse 29 how much time I get? I got another 2 hours. I'm just chilling. I'm just kidding. Are you getting anything out of this? First of all, this is making sense. Luke chapter 5 verse 29 it says then Levi that's Matthews name gave him a feast a great feast in his own house. Y'all see that and there were a great number of tax collectors and others who sat down with him and I come to realize the party or the the feast was fruitful because after the party a lot of them followed price. amen in Mark chapter 2 verse 15 says now it happen as he was dying and Levi's house that many tax collectors and sinners also set together with Jesus and his disciples for there were many and they followed him. Here's what I need you to understand go to 2nd Corinthians chapter 5 verse 19 chapter 5 verse 19. The text says in the NIV it says that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ not counting people's sins against him and he was committed to us the message of reconciliation to hear the challenge. We want to focus on folks sins. That's not why Jesus came. See we want to make people feel bad about what they're doing or not doing it's not why Jesus came the Bible says Jesus came to reconcile them back to God. You have to have a falling out with your friend. You know somebody you care about y'all Fallout misunderstanding when you reconcile you come back together.

It let me try it over here. Cuz all y'all got the best friends in the world. You never have a fight nothing ever goes wrong, you know our family members. We all just like The Brady Bunch we all get together resolve all the problems in 22 minutes with commercials. It's all good. But if you ever have that one person that you thought was your friend and y'all fell out.

Reconciliation means something and someone brings you back together. So you friends again. You understand that. Jesus came to reconcile man with God. That's why I came he didn't come to tell beat people down about they sins or what they was doing. He came to bring them back in relationship with God. That's why I that's why the text talks about that. God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ not counting people sins against them and he has he went he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. And when we we find folks were broken before going through stuff this thing is about let me tell you something. I know you heard. Let me get you back to God. I want to focus on what you doing. I don't want to for you already feeling bad enough.

Sister, let me let me show you how much God loves you. He send Jesus to facilitate this reconciliation process. That's what this thing is about. Got it all wrong. I'm going to take a big weapon. You going to hell?

I'm better than you I got saved and you're not. We just beating. We come in and we looking for some crazy in the church. They're hurting. Let's do everything we can to get them back to God.

First 20 says we are there for Christ ambassadors as though God were making his appeal through us. We employ you on course be happy be reconciled to God come back to God. That's all this thing is about. Yeah, we all checked up. We're all we all have our issues or had our issues. But thank God Jesus came so that we can get back in right relationship with God. To see when you stop focusing on what people doing wrong and start focusing on how can I get them back in right relationship with God that's reconciliation.

Does that make sense now? It takes the pressure off me because when you care about somebody and you know what God what your relationship is like when you want them to have the same kind of relationship.

Does that make sense? This is why boggles my mind when we feel to witness to our friends. Because all we should be doing this. Let me tell you man. Let me tell you sister. I just want to do whatever I can to get you back in a relationship with God. I don't care about what you did that's not important. It was important to Jesus. Cuz what was important to Jesus was that you were back in right relationship with God. That's why I came.

Man takes on a different meaning. Right. I'm not so focused on the fact that Matthew did whatever he did but That I can help him get back in relationship with God. Does it help anyone? a man I know I'm not going to finish this tonight. Can I break this up and do another one? Can I finish this up? You know? Okay. So here's the here's what I need what I need to do. Okay. So check this out. He's what we need to do. Listen y'all. I want to leave you with a couple things, right? So now instead of having eyes that see fault in people. Have Eyes of reconciliation When when family members fall out somebody has to say come on y'all. Let's come back together. Write somebody say we shouldn't be fighting like this and feeling like this. Somebody has to say whatever we need to do. You say you're sorry. You said you sorry. Let's get back together with family and we all belong to God We Are Family it. When all we got to do is know somebody loves you.
