Psalm 119:105–112 NASB95
105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path. 106 I have sworn and I will confirm it, That I will keep Your righteous ordinances. 107 I am exceedingly afflicted; Revive me, O Lord, according to Your word. 108 O accept the freewill offerings of my mouth, O Lord, And teach me Your ordinances. 109 My life is continually in my hand, Yet I do not forget Your law. 110 The wicked have laid a snare for me, Yet I have not gone astray from Your precepts. 111 I have inherited Your testimonies forever, For they are the joy of my heart. 112 I have inclined my heart to perform Your statutes Forever, even to the end.
Psalm 119:105 NASB95
105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.
Live can be like walking through a room full of legos at night with no light to guide the way.
(Linvill Caverns)
We Live in a dark dark world.
This week has really exposed it…
But there is HOPE
John 1:1 NLT
1 In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God…4 The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.
It can never be defeated
The reason is as long as there is a hint of light, darkness is displaced.
Psalm 119:106 NASB95
106 I have sworn and I will confirm it, That I will keep Your righteous ordinances.
David gives us an example of how we ought to respond to the Light
“Confirm it…” (Qum): means to stand upon, be upright with, build, be strengthened.
David is declaring that he will stand upon the Word.
(Told a friend that it doesn’t matter what I think, it matters what the Word says)
David is building upon the Word…
He is also strengthened by the Word. (Did you know the Word can strengthen you?)
Psalm 119:107 NASB95
107 I am exceedingly afflicted; Revive me, O Lord, according to Your word.
David is revived by the Word.
While under attack David runs to the only source of life that can save him.
God’s Rhema Word has the power to bring life from nothing, to complete non-existence into existence with just one breath of a word.
Psalm 119:108 NASB95
108 O accept the freewill offerings of my mouth, O Lord, And teach me Your ordinances.
Even in the midst of attack David still thinks of praising God and on top of that learning from the Master.
Psalm 119:109 NASB95
109 My life is continually in my hand, Yet I do not forget Your law.
Here he has a poetic way of saying he is constantly in danger, his life is always under threat of being lost.
David is also expressing the fragility of human life as compared to the eternal of God’s law, will, Word.
We can either focus on the fragile and temporal of this life or we can focus on the eternal kingdom at hand.
Psalm 119:110 NASB95
110 The wicked have laid a snare for me, Yet I have not gone astray from Your precepts.
Constantly this world is trying to trap us, trip us up, tempt us.
The only way to avoid the traps is found back in verse 105. We need the light of the Word to expose the traps.
With out it we have no Hope
Psalm 119:111–112 NASB95
111 I have inherited Your testimonies forever, For they are the joy of my heart. 112 I have inclined my heart to perform Your statutes Forever, even to the end.
David laid focus in the eternal, he took a stand that he would stand on the Word,
the only thing that could light his path,
the only thing that could give him strength,
the only thing that could expose the traps of life and guide him safely,
it is never changing and constant.
It’s what grows us:
"I never saw a fruit-bearing Christian who was not a student of the Bible."
~Dwight Lyman Moody
Take Home?
Are You Walking in Light or Do You Choose Darkness.
Isaiah 50:10 NASB95
10 Who is among you that fears the Lord, That obeys the voice of His servant, That walks in darkness and has no light? Let him trust in the name of the Lord and rely on his God.
Let today be the day light comes into your life.
