Explainer

At this time we will practice the Lord’s Supper together.
This ordinance commemorates the death of our Lord Jesus Christ as we take the bread, which represents his body broken for us, and the cup which represents His blood poured out for us.
As we take these elements into our bodies we do three things: we remember the gospel of Christ which is given to us by grace through faith. We renew our communion with God and our church. And, we take this time to repent of our sin and seek God’s help as we face the devil, the world, and our flesh.

Fence

For this reason, the Lord’s table is only for those who profess Christ as their Savior, are seeking to live life in communion with God and their local church, and are not living in habitual and unrepentant sin.
If you do not believe in Christ, are currently not in fellowship with a local church, or you are living in unrepentant sin then we ask that you refrain from taking the Lord’s Supper.
In just a moment after I pray, we will have a time of reflection. When this time is over please come up the middle aisle and take your elements. Return to your seats using the outside aisle. We will take the elements together. During this time of reflection we encourage you to remember the sacrifice of Jesus, renew your commitment to God and His church, and repent of your sins.

Taking of the Elements

The Bread

Let us pray before taking the bread. Lord, your word tells us, “[35] …“I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. (ESV)” as we take this bread into our bodies help us remember the sufficiency of your sacrifice. Your body broken for sinners once and for all. Amen.
“For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”” (1 Corinthians 11:23–24) (Eat the bread)

The Cup

Let us pray before taking the cup. Lord, we take this cup knowing that we have been purchased with the precious blood of Jesus. Help us drink this cup remembering the great cost of our salvation, and may this remind us of our need to reject sin and cling to you.
“In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”” (1 Corinthians 11:25) (drink the cup)

The Church’s Response

6 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. (1 Corinthians 11:26)
And the Church said… AMEN!
Let’s stand and sing.
