No Unrighteousness in Him

Romans 9:14

Romans 9:14 “What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.”

This is a verse that used to go without saying but today many have lost the truth of this verse

on the surface this verse appears cut and dry and it is but the implications of this verse go much deeper in the life of true Christians than most understand

the implications are vast and life changing and life altering

that is probably why many agree with this verse in head knowledge but not obedience

this morning I want to pull 3 things that God is because of there is no unrighteousness in Him

1. God is Holy

God is holy

zero unrighteousness in Him

if you love God then you through Holy Spirit must settle for nothing short of holy in your own life

we sell holy short so many times

we accept unrighteousness in our lives daily

Deuteronomy 32:4

Deuteronomy 32:4 “He is the Rock, his work is perfect: For all his ways are judgment: A God of truth and without iniquity, Just and right is he.”

I want to look this morning at the meaning of the original words in many of our scriptures today

Rock

________________

God, cliff, boulder, refuge

This is much more than foundation

it is protection

if you are on a cliff you are high above any enemies and you can see enemies or problems from a LONG way off

Refuge we will look at in depth later today

Perfect

________________

entire, integrity, truth

God’s work is entire..complete...full of integrity and truth

His Ways

________________

road...course of life

Judgement

________________

properly, verdict, pronounced judicially

Of Truth

________________

firmness, security

Iniquity

________________

evil, perverseness, wicked, unrighteousness

Just

________________

just, lawful, righteous

And Right

________________

straight, convenient, equity

So with those definitions understood lets look at this verse again

He is God, His work is entire, complete and truth, for all His course of life is properly pronounced judicially a God of firmness and security without evil or wickedness or unrighteousness He is just, lawful and straight

that is your God

that is my God

in fact doesn’t matter if you or I are saved that is God

this is so much more than God is good..which He is and we should remind each other of that however most of the time that is used as a catch phrase not a way of life

God is good

God is good all the time and all the time God is good

but do you truly believe that

do you truly know what that means

you say it but do you understand it

Because there is no unrighteousness in God that means He is holy

Because God is holy He protects His people

His children

those who are truly saved

Jesus paid the legal price for you if you are saved

sin is so much more than doing bad

sin is unlawful and God is a lawful God

sin breaks God’s law and because He is holy then payment must be made for that violation of the law....your blood or Jesus’ blood

Here is the deal

salvation is the beginning not the end

it is the first step of the journey not the destination

sanctification is not a request of God but a demand of God

if you love me keep My commandments

Today a false

washed up

softened gospel is being pushed by so many

it says Jesus gets you

Jesus loves you

both are true by the way but here is the false

because Jesus gets you and loves you and because God is love then you can live and speak and think however you want because God loves you so you are good

that is false and what is worse is most pastors refuse to preach obedience

life changing obedience

mandatory

required obedience

where some are brave enough to preach it the congregation gets so convicted the get rid of the pastor

it happens every day across this country because people want their ears scratched not their hearts pricked with conviction

comfort now but will be eternally tormented in hell

God is Holy so obedience is required

2. God is Refuge

Before we get into our scripture that illustrates this point we have to understand refuge

In Bible times there were 6 cities which were cities of refuge

no matter what was happening or who was chasing you if you got to and inside the city of refuge you were safe as long as you stayed inside the city

These cities, as were most cities in the time, had large, thick walls to protect those on the inside from the outside

they took refuge in the city

they were safe

they were protected

complete legal protection

II Samuel 22:13

2 Samuel 22:13 “Through the brightness before him Were coals of fire kindled.”

Again I want to look at original word meanings

Will I Trust

________________

to flee for protection, to confide in, have hope

many of us say we trust God but we do not flee to Him for protection

we get overwhelmed so we run to

meds

worry

anxiety

our own pride refuses to allow us to run to God for protection because you got this

we run to the world

youtube

social media

tiktok

all of those things fail us yet you continue to turn to them

you continue to trust them time and time and time again

will you trust?

My Shield

shield, protector, scaly hide of crocodile

shields are for one thing and one thing only protection

roman shields were huge and designed to not only protect you but allow you to lock arms....lock shields....to form a shield wall to stop the enemy

God is your sheild

your pride cant defend you

your effort cant defend you

your religious activity and church membership cant protect you

your spouse cant protect you

your pastor cant protect you

only God is your shield your protection

I love scaly hide of crocodile

we get that....it makes sense

I used to watch swamp people and most of them hunter alligators

they would put chicken or whatever on a huge hook tied to a tree and the alligator would eat the bait and be hooked

when they arrived in the boat the alligator was still alive

they would get the alligator to the surface and have to shoot it and the kill spot is only about as big as a quarter because their skin is so thick and hard bullets bounced off

Liberty, deliverance, prosperity, safety, salvation

Is God that to you

what does your fruit say?

Is God truly your protector.....do you rely upon Him to be your shield or are you trying to use your own

well that is just the way it is

i know what God says and I am trying but I still need to feel

I still need to be upset

I still need.....STOP that is you

what you need is God

you will still feel, you will still be upset but it will not consume you it will have to obey Jesus!

fleeing, escape, way to flee

My Savior

to be open, wide or free, to be safe, defend, avenge, help

that is so active

may see Savior and think of something already done....yes the cross is done and over with and salvation and forgiveness are freely offered but Jesus doesn’t stop there

He is freely open to you.....He is your safety....He defends you

He avenges you

He helps you

active

alive

still in your life that is Savior

Thou Savest Me

same as salvation

From Violence

________________

violence, wrong, unjust gain, cruel, damage, false, injustice

not only does He save you but he defends you from violence

not physical....sometimes He does but not always

no this is talking about spiritual warfare

satan

demons

principalities

powers in high places

Jesus protects you from them having an eternal impact on you

He will avenge

every enemy of God will answer and pay on judgement day....leave it to Him

Where do you run when you are wronged

your own emotions and anger and pride

social media

anyone who will justify your emotions and anger and pride

those will all fail and make things worse

Run to God HE is your refuge

Lets look at II Samuel again

God in Him will I trust, will I flee for protection, will I confide in, will I have hope, He is my protector and the flask and power of my liberty and deliverance. My cliff, refuge, defense, my escape, my way to flee, my liberty, my deliverance thou give me liberty, deliver me from violence, wrong, injustice, cruel damage.

where to you turn

who or what is your refuge

3. God is Just and Upright

II Chronicles 19:7

________________

2 Chronicles 19:7 “Wherefore now let the fear of the Lord be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the Lord our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.”

Because God is just He respects no persons

Nor Respect means just that respect

of persons means face

so what does that mean

God doesn’t see people as you see people

you and I see physical

position

works

so and so has to be saved because they are a pastor or elder or leader or teacher

they attend church every Sunday

they give lots of time and money to the church

or

they dont go to church there is no way they are saved

God sees Jesus’ blood covering your sin or He sees an enemy who will have to face His full wrath at judgement day

that wrath is why we fear God because He is just and we are guilty

God is also upright

Psalm 92:15

Psalm 92:15 “To shew that the Lord is upright: He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.”

Upright means straight

unrighteousness means evil, iniquity, perverseness

to show that the Lord is straight He is my God and there is no evil and iniquity and perverseness

God lives according to His character

God expects you as a Christian to work out your salvation through obedience

not in order to be saved but because you are saved by a Holy God

a God who is just and upright

a God who is your refuge

You are to chase sanctification with all that is in you

you are to be discipled by Jesus and other mature Christians and discipling others

why

Because God is good and because He saved you if you are saved

does your life reflect God Himself or your flawed version of God
