Marriage and God Sermon
In this scripture, we read about the love that God has for his people.
He states, “For I know the plans I have for you”.
In the beginning, before Alison and Josh were even born, God had known that this day would come and that they would get married.
Each day he was working on their hearts, souls, and minds to mold them into the people you see standing before you.
Now the plans of God are coming to fruition and they are ready to pledge their lives to one another, and it’s such a privilege and an honor for us to bear witness to it.
God specifically states he does not have plans for disaster but rather for good..
This means that although we will go through rough times in marriage, God will always be there for us.
Though we may be close to giving up on each other, God has not, and will not, give up on us.
As I said before, God had known us to the very soul of our being and will take care of us throughout the ups and downs of life.
God is not wanting our downfall but rather wanting us to push on and to move forward through anything and everything that may be hindering us.
Every trial that we go through strengthens us and pushes us to the next step or the next level.
In your marriage, you will face many trials but this will make your bond stronger.
In order to do this, you must learn everything you can about each other and to learn most of all where God fits in place.
Just as God is the Trinity with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Your marriage should be in Trinity with him.
You two being the bottom part of the Triangle in which Man and Woman are equal, while God is on top protecting you, providing for you, and being your strength.
So, for you to effectively to work together, you both must allow God to work through you.
You need to not only keep the lines of communication open with him but also keep the lines of communication open with each other.
This is the key to a successful marriage.
As God states in the final line of the verse, “he has plans to give you hope and a future.”
This is where it gets exciting.
The future that God has for you is so much more than you can ever imagine.
Marriage is not just a commencement of maintaining life together but consenting to become one in holy matrimony.
Always keep your marriage holy, and allow God to unveil the perfect plans that he has for your life together in his timing.
And lastly, remember that God is love.
He loves you so much that he handcrafted and specially molded the person you are holding hands with now--just for you.
He wants you to love your spouse as he loves them, no matter what.
God reveals to all of us through scripture the true meaning of love, and if you make a conscious effort to love one another as he loves you, your relationships will never fail.
Laura, will you please read .
-Laura reads scripture-
Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails.
NIV 1984
Josh and Alison, are you ready to speak your vows?
Vows
To Josh: Will you have this woman to be your wife, to live together in the holy covenant of marriage?
Will you love her, comfort her, honor her, and keep her in sickness and in health and, forsaking all others, be faithful to her so long as you both shall live?
If so, answer, “I do.”
Alison: Will you have this man to be your husband, to live together in the holy covenant of marriage?
Will you love him, comfort him, honor and keep him in sickness and in health and, forsaking all others, be faithful to him so long as you both shall live?
If so, answer, “I do.”
Unity Candle
“Let us the Unity candle”
The two outside candles have been lighted to represent your lives to this moment.
They are two distinct lights, each capable of going its separate way.
To bring joy and radiance into your home, there must be the merging of these two flames into one.
From this time onward, may your thoughts be for each other rather than for your individual selves; may your plans be mutual, your joys and sorrows shared.
As this center light cannot be divided, let not your lives be divided, but instead be the united testimony of a Christian home, as Christ gives you light.
Lighting of the unity candle between Josh and Alison.
-both come back, Alexander reads -
Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
