Honesty is not enough

Why is honesty is not enough
There is a difference between honesty, and transparency and vulnerability.
We can be ok with honesty especially if we get caught. We can fess up to the truth. Ok yes I did it. But that is not the whole thing.
As the people of God we should be after transformation and not just a statement of facts.
As the people of God we should want to press in and change.
Honesty is good. I like honesty. One of my favorite sayings lately is,
its not driving force but its in the car.
That is honesty Honest admits the thing but we should want to go further.
Honesty = Facts, often external.
Transparency = Context and Motives
Vulnerability = Inner Heart and what it shows
If we look at Psalm 51 we can see this.
This Psalm is after David sleeps with Bathsheba and has Uriah killed.
Verses 1-2 and then 18-19 are a plead for mercy. He is saying God have mercy on me, spare me.
The rest of the psalm is a mix of transparency and vulnerability woven together in a tapestry of motives and what it shows him about himeslf.
He says, I have done evil in your sight, and you desire integrity in the inner self.
Create in me a clean heart. He is saying God my heart is not right. I slept with her, I had my friend killed but that is because my heart is wrong.
Verse 17 is so powerful
Psalm 51:17 CSB
The sacrifice pleasing to God is a broken spirit. You will not despise a broken and humbled heart, God.
David is saying because my heart is wrong I am broken and i need you to fix me.
This is so much more than honesty this is a desire for transformation.
