E. The workman—2:14–18
There are INDIVIDUALS who will use the position of POWER and INFLUENCE to distract the Church and destroy the families faith.
Watch out for GODLESS teaching and poisonous leadership. (Gangrene - Serious enough to cut it off to save the rest)
Watch out for GODLESS chatter and useless arguments. (Ruins those who listen and leads to more UNGODLINESS)
The New American Commentary: 1, 2 Timothy, Titus (1) Resistance of the False Teachers (2:14–19)
First, Timothy was to make it his supreme ambition to obtain God’s approval (“Try hard to show yourself worthy of God’s approval,” NEB). Second, he was to be a workman with no reason to be ashamed. The term “workman” is frequently used in reference to an agricultural laborer (e.g., Jas 5:4), but here Paul used the term to describe a laborer for God. Paul was urging his Christian friend to work with such diligence that he would have no fear of shame for poor quality work
Watch out for GODLESS teaching and poisonous leadership. (Gangrene - Serious enough to cut it off to save the rest)
Watch out for GODLESS chatter and useless arguments. (Ruins those who listen and leads to more UNGODLINESS)
F. The vessel—2:19–22
There are CHRISTIANS who are FAITHFUL and UNFAITHFUL in the Church (Body of Believers)
Cleanse yourself so that you can be a VESSEL “useful to the Master” and “prepared to do any good work.”
Cleanse yourself from being associated with VESSELS that show evidence of “youthful desires” and “foolish and uninformed controversies.” (vs. 23 - they produce quarrels - Greek word CONTROVERSY)
G. The servant—2:23–26
There are SERVANTS of the Lord who INVEST and INSTRUCT through knowledge of truth.
Invest through kindness to EVERYONE (us 4 and no more) without resentment.
