Think of others
Glorify God in what you do
We are washed, sanctified, and justified by Jesus
12 “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything.
13 “Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food”—and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.
14 And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power.
15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never!
16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, “The two will become one flesh.”
17 But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him.
18 Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.
19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,
20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
Benefit the Body
Benefit the Body
12-14—My sins are forgiven, so, “All things are Lawful for me” ?
“Food for the stomach and the stomach for food”
These were slogans used to justify the Corinthian Christians sinful behavior SPECIFICALLY sexual sin
As a Christ-Follower, my body belongs to the LORD
15-17— As a Christ-Follower I am a MEMBER of the Body of Christ
EVERYTHING I do, Christ is with me
Sexual sin, in particular, is intensely personal
One Body:
Genesis 2:24 “24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”
One Spirit:
John 17:21–23 “21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.”
18-20— RUN!
Sexual sin is commited against our own bodies
My body is NOT my own. It is a Temple, in which the Spirit of God dwells
The purchase price was EXTRAVAGANT and I will not give it away so cheaply
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 10:9–10 “9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.”
