When circumstances surround you, why do you respond the way you do? It’s often harsh and takes action that mainly looks out for self doesn’t it?

Jesus was arrested
Taken to Annas - a previous high priest and father-in-law of Caiaphas
Probably seen as a man of wisdom who would know what to do
Probably a man of great influence
Seen as a co-high priest in
during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the wilderness.
Then Jesus was taken to Caiaphas
Current high priest
He was deposed of this office two years after Jesus’ crucifixion
We know that he believed that one man should be offered up for the salvation of the nation
Nor do you understand that it is better for you that one man should die for the people, not that the whole nation should perish.”
However, I don’t believe he fully understood what that meant
He was followed by His disciples
Peter led the charge with one other disciples
I could only imagine this was John
They are at the front door and run into a servant girl
What are the odds?
The servant girl at the door said to Peter, “You also are not one of this man’s disciples, are you?” He said, “I am not.”
Peter denied being a disciple of Christ before this servant girl, and more importantly before HIs fellow disciple
The one who Jesus will consider - The Rock on which I will build my church
Peter then simply tried to carry on as if nothing had happened
Now the servants and officers had made a charcoal fire, because it was cold, and they were standing and warming themselves. Peter also was with them, standing and warming himself.
This was his default. Why? Why was he not a zealot for Jesus like he had been in the garden?
His default was self preservation, no matter what

I thought I already sent that email out. I’m sure I did. – Because telling you that it was a low priority and I forgot would probably hurt our relationship.

PROBLEM:
Peter’s default was to sin. It was to refuse to even know that man, Jesus who was now going on trial and probably death.
He went to what was easy and tried to fit into what everyone else was doing.
His default was to be just like the world, those who did not know Jesus as he did.
This too can be our problem. In an attempt to fit in or look good we play down discipleship. We may even deny the things we are called to be and do and stand at the fire like anyone else.

God used Annas and Caiaphas in moving the process along
He placed these men in a familial relationship
He gave Caiaphas the belief that it is better than one man e sacrificed for the whole nation
This is actual God’s plan
Mortification of Sin
We need to understand the ingrained depth of our original sin
We need to also see our need for mortifying the effects of original sin within us
Mortifying actual sin
We will not grow without it - It is a sign of Sanctification

Ethics and Morality - ours should be different and be nothing like the rest of the worlds

The fetus in an abortion becomes nothing more than an object. And when you objectify a person, you get some horrible atrocities.
The Christian world view has no place for an ethical system that looks more like the world than it does the law of God. Our worldview should be God’s worldview.

Non of us are able nor worthy to follow Jesus nor be called his disciples
If we could we would just slink back and try and fit in with everyone else
But, God has rescued us from this and we do not have to revert back to our sinful default
