What we need to see in the mirror:

READ JOB 1:1-5

The world is BENEVOLENT— “Good things happen.”
The world MAKES SENSE— “Good things happen to the right people”
The self is WORTHY— “I am the right kind of person.”
Shattered Assumptions by Ronnie Janoff-Bulman

Trauma

READ JOB 1:13-22

READ JOB 2:8-13

READ JOB 3:1-5, 20-26

Job 3:23 NIV
Why is life given to a man whose way is hidden, whom God has hedged in?
Trauma happens when an experience SHATTERS our worldview.
We crave EXPLANATIONS to rebuild our WORLDVIEWS.

Job 42:7-17

God doesn’t give Job an EXPLANATION because our worldviews AREN’T TRUE.

The Comfort of Job

The world is not BENEVOLENT—God is GOOD.
The world does not MAKE SENSE—God is TRUSTWORTHY.
You don’t need to be WORTHY—You are LOVED by God.
Romans 5:2–8 NIV
through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
