Acts Part 6

And when Peter saw it he addressed the people: “Men of Israel, why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we have made him walk? The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified his servant Jesus, whom you delivered over and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release him. But you denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, and you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses. And his name—by faith in his name—has made this man strong whom you see and know, and the faith that is through Jesus has given the man this perfect health in the presence of you all.
“And now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did also your rulers. But what God foretold by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ would suffer, he thus fulfilled. Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, whom heaven must receive until the time for restoring all the things about which God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets long ago. Moses said, ‘The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brothers. You shall listen to him in whatever he tells you. And it shall be that every soul who does not listen to that prophet shall be destroyed from the people.’ And all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and those who came after him, also proclaimed these days. You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed.’ God, having raised up his servant, sent him to you first, to bless you by turning every one of you from your wickedness.”
While he clung to Peter and John, all the people, utterly astounded, ran together to them in the portico called Solomon’s. And when Peter saw it he addressed the people: “Men of Israel, why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we have made him walk? Big Idea: The people of God are not okay without the gospel of God.
Big Idea: Those farthest from God are often believers in God, and Jesus wants to save them too.
1. Jesus is Your Servant (v.13,26)
For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied;
by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant,
make many to be accounted righteous,
and he shall bear their iniquities.
2. Jesus is Your Holy & Righteous One (v.14)
2. Jesus is Your Holy & Righteous One (v.14)
“Now his older son was in the field, and as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing. And he called one of the servants and asked what these things meant. And he said to him, ‘Your brother has come, and your father has killed the fattened calf, because he has received him back safe and sound.’ But he was angry and refused to go in. His father came out and entreated him,

Righteousness: Being right

but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us,

Call to repentance.
For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.

4. Jesus is the Object of Your Faith (v.16)
but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,

5. Jesus is the Fulfillment of the Bible (v.18, 24)
2. Go public with your personal faith in Jesus.
3. Courage comes in the midst of witnessing about Jesus.
Jesus is the true and better Adam, who passed the test in the garden and whose obedience is imputed to us.
Jesus is the true and better Adam, who passed the test in the garden and whose obedience is imputed to us.
Jesus is the true and better Abel, who though innocently slain, has blood that cries out for our acquittal, not our condemnation.
Jesus is the true and better Abraham, who answered the call of God to leave the comfortable and familiar and go out into the void “not knowing whither he went” to create a new people of God.
Jesus is the true and better Isaac, who was not just offered up by his father on the mount but was truly sacrificed for us all.
Jesus is the true and better Job- the truly innocent sufferer- who then intercedes for and saves his stupid friends.
Jesus is the true and better David, whose victory becomes his people’s victory, though they never lifted a stone to accomplish it themselves.
Jesus is the true and better Esther, who didn’t just risk losing an earthly palace, but lost the ultimate heavenly one, who didn’t just risk his life but gave his life- to save his people.
Jesus is the true and better Jonah, who was cast out into the storm so we could be brought in.
You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me,
6. Jesus is Your Christ (v.20)
Repent & believe.
Let me point out Peter’s raw and straight-forward accusation of the Jews which is our problem as well:
Sin (v.19), and wickedness (v.26), expressed most clearly in our treatment of Jesus (vv.13-15), where we delivered Jesus over to death in place of a murderer, denied Jesus as innocent although he was by a Roman governor who wasn’t a follower of Jesus, and killed Jesus, the Author of Life himself.
Forgiveness is what we are all desperate for.
So there’s our problem. Sin, which has affected and infected every aspect of our world and lives. We are literally falling apart and dying- physically, spiritually, and utlimately, eternally.
Our answer, according to Peter, is found in verse 19, and it’s a simple word: repent.
OT- come back home.
NT- think again, because you are wrong, you are “ignorant” (v.17) about everything.
“Your best thinking got you here.” AA
You have been wrong about God, about the world, about yourself, about everything. k
Abandon all former dispositions you thought you had, and acknowledge what God says is true about Himself, about you, about EVERYTHING.
Here, Peter preaches about Jesus in 8 specific ways, that make us un-ignorant and un-stupid- so that we would acknowledge who He really is, not who we think he is, and as a result, follow Him, run to Him, trust Him, and believe Him in all that He says and all he He has done for us.
“The heart is hopelessly dark and deceitful...” , MSG
Sin touches our minds- which means our thoughts are wrong:
For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot.
Jesus is the Servant of God (v.13, 26)
7. Jesus is Your Prophet (v.22-23)
For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
2. Jesus is the Holy & Righteous One (v.14)
Justification: Made right.
8. Jesus is Your Blessing for the World (v.25-26)
Now the promises were made to Abraham and to his offspring. It does not say, “And to offsprings,” referring to many, but referring to one, “And to your offspring,” who is Christ.
Know then that it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham.

When everything else has failed, when all is sin and shame, when humanity is defeated and hopeless, Christ comes, and at once there is hope. Martyn Lloyd-Jones

5. Jesus is the Fulfillment of Prophecy (v.18)
6. Jesus is the Christ (v.20)
The bill replaces the Child and Family Services Act, or Bill 28, which governs child protection, foster care and adoption services.
Bill 28 stated that the parent of a child in care retains the right "to direct the child's education and religious upbringing." However, the new law amends it thus: "to direct the child or young person's education and upbringing, in accordance with the child's or young person's creed, community identity and cultural identity."
