Whitehorse Baptist Church "Ordinary People: Radical Joy" "The Attitude That Leads to Radical Joy" STUDY QUESTIONS 1. Preparation: Read Philippians 2:1-11 a. When you hear the word “attitude,” what comes to mind? b. What attitude(s) do you think Jesus had during His days on earth? c. What did Christ have to give up in order to come to earth? 2. Examination a. What is the difference between Jesus being God and Jesus being Lord? b. What’s the difference between a slave and a servant in Paul’s day? c. What two major weights did Jesus bear on the cross (Isaiah 53:4-5)? 3. Reflection a. Do you feel the reason Bible translators had for not calling Christians “slaves” is still valid today? Why or why not? b. Christians are owned by Christ for two reasons. What are they? c. Reflect on the truth that though we are Christ’s slaves, Jesus also wants to call us His friends. What does that mean to you? 4. Implementation a. Jesus wants to call you His “good and faithful slave” in heaven. Is there an area of your life you need to be more obedient in? b. If we are slaves, there shouldn’t be anyone we see as inferior to us. Is God calling you to befriend someone that you ignored in the past? c. How else can you live out Jesus humble, self-denying and self- sacrificing attitude?
