Big Idea
God’s sovereign power over life, shown in these signs, confirms His presence with His people and assures them of His faithful deliverance.
I. Hand of Healing (Ex 4:6–7)
I. Hand of Healing (Ex 4:6–7)
Moses obeys God; his hand becomes leprous—white as snow.
Leprosy was seen as a cursed, incurable skin disease making one ritually unclean.
But God immediately restores Moses’ hand—He alone can afflict or heal.
Application: Our powerful God who healed Moses’ hand can also restore any broken, “cursed” part of our lives.
But a healed hand alone might not convince stubborn hearts—God has another miracle in store to prove His power.
II. If They Won’t Believe (Ex 4:8)
II. If They Won’t Believe (Ex 4:8)
God anticipates doubt: “If they will not believe... first sign, they may believe second”.
Moses has two signs already; God even hints at a third (turning Nile water to blood) if needed.
These miracles were like God’s own “visual sermons,” proving His absolute authority and validating Moses’ message.
Application: God meets our doubts with evidence, but ultimately calls us to trust Him beyond the signs we see.
If two miracles still fail to convince, God will next display His power over nature itself.
III. Water to Blood (Ex 4:9)
III. Water to Blood (Ex 4:9)
Moses obeys and pours water from the Nile on the ground; it turns to blood.
The Nile—Egypt’s life-source—becomes blood: what once gave life is now deadly.
This strikes at Egypt’s revered Nile-god (Hapi); Yahweh alone controls the river of Egypt (its very lifeblood).
Application: God’s ultimate demonstration: as Jesus (the Living Water) gives eternal life, His blood brings life rather than death.
Ultimately, this points to Christ—by His blood we receive life, not death, when we come to Him.
