Psalm 145: Great is Yahweh, and highly to be praised (2)

Notes
Transcript
When we go through difficulties in life, it is easy to get our eyes focused on ourselves, our suffering, our circumstances, and begin to entertain Wrong ideas about God
God is harsh
God is not fair
God is not good to me
God does not care
God does not hear
God is far from me
God is punishing me
God hates me
God is against me
Praise is the cure. Praise lifts our eyes off of ourselves, and our circumstances, and onto the Lord, Yahweh. The personal God who personally knows us, and wants us to know him. But not just know him, to know him properly.
Psalm 145 LSB
A Praise of David. 1 I will exalt You, my God, O King, And I will bless Your name forever and ever. 2 Every day I will bless You, And I will praise Your name forever and ever. 3 Great is Yahweh, and highly to be praised, And His greatness is unsearchable. 4 One generation shall laud Your works to another, And shall declare Your mighty deeds. 5 On the glorious splendor of Your majesty And on the words of Your wondrous deeds, I will muse. 6 Men shall speak of the strength of Your fearsome acts, And I will recount Your greatness. 7 They shall pour forth the memory of Your abundant goodness And will shout joyfully of Your righteousness. 8 Yahweh is gracious and compassionate; Slow to anger and great in lovingkindness. 9 Yahweh is good to all, And His compassions are over all His works. 10 All Your works, O Yahweh, shall give thanks to You, And Your holy ones shall bless You. 11 They shall speak of the glory of Your kingdom And talk of Your might; 12 To make known to the sons of men His mighty deeds And the glory of the majesty of His kingdom. 13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, And Your dominion endures from generation to every generation. 14 Yahweh sustains all who fall And raises up all who are bowed down. 15 The eyes of all wait on You, And You give them their food in due time. 16 You open Your hand And satisfy the desire of every living thing. 17 Yahweh is righteous in all His ways And holy in all His works. 18 Yahweh is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth. 19 He will work out the desire of those who fear Him; He will hear their cry for help and He will save them. 20 Yahweh keeps all who love Him, But all the wicked He will destroy. 21 My mouth will speak the praise of Yahweh, And all flesh will bless His holy name forever and ever.

To shine the light on all He is, has done, is doing, and will do!
To boast in him.

Psalm 145:3-6, Yahweh is Great!

He is Great

His Deeds are Great

His Judgments are Great

Psalm 145:7-10, Yahweh is Good!

Psalm 145:6–8 NIV
6 They tell of the power of your awesome works— and I will proclaim your great deeds. 7 They celebrate your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of your righteousness. 8 The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love.

Psalm 145:11-13, Yahweh is Reigning!

Psalm 46 LSB
For the choir director. Of the sons of Korah. According to Alamoth. A Song. 1 God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change And though the mountains shake into the heart of the sea; 3 Though its waters roar and foam, Though the mountains quake at its lofty pride. Selah. 4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, The holy dwelling places of the Most High. 5 God is in the midst of her, she will not be shaken; God will help her when morning dawns. 6 The nations roar, the kingdoms shake; He gives His voice, the earth melts. 7 Yahweh of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our stronghold. Selah. 8 Come, behold the works of Yahweh, Who has appointed desolations in the earth. 9 He makes wars to cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow and cuts up the spear; He burns the chariots with fire. 10 “Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” 11 Yahweh of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our stronghold. Selah.
Psalm 2 LSB
1 Why do the nations rage And the peoples meditate on a vain thing? 2 The kings of the earth take their stand And the rulers take counsel together Against Yahweh and against His Anointed, saying, 3 “Let us tear their fetters apart And cast away their cords from us!” 4 He who sits in the heavens laughs, The Lord mocks them. 5 Then He speaks to them in His anger And terrifies them in His fury, saying, 6 “But as for Me, I have installed My King Upon Zion, My holy mountain.” 7 “I will surely tell of the decree of Yahweh: He said to Me, ‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. 8 ‘Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth as Your possession. 9 ‘You shall break them with a rod of iron, You shall shatter them like a potter’s vessel.’” 10 So now, O kings, show insight; Take warning, O judges of the earth. 11 Serve Yahweh with fear And rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest He become angry, and you perish in the way, For His wrath may soon be kindled. How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!

next verses in Psalm 145.15-16
Psalm 145:15–16 NIV

Gracious to supply

Psalm 145:17 NIV
17 The Lord is righteous in all his ways and faithful in all he does.

Gracious and still righteous and holy

He is gracious, but still righteous and holy. He will discipline those he loves.
Proverbs 3:11–12 NIV
11 My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, 12 because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.
Psalm 145:18 NIV
18 The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.

Gracious to be near

Jesus wept.
Psalm 34:18 NIV

Hebrews 4:15–16 NIV
15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Psalm 145:19 NIV
19 He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them.

Gracious to hear

1 John 5:14 NIV
14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.
Psalm 145:20 NIV
20 The Lord watches over all who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy.

Gracious to keep and sustain

Sustain… not remove the trial, but sustain
2 Corinthians 4:7–10 NIV
7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. 8 We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. 10 We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.
2 Corinthians 12:7–10 NIV
7 or because of these surpassingly great revelations. Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
Psalm 145:21 NIV
21 My mouth will speak in praise of the Lord. Let every creature praise his holy name for ever and ever.
Sing your Psalm of Praise this week.
Exalt the Lord. Lift him up for who He is and does, do not tear him down with wrong ideas about him.
Bless the Lord. Salute him for who He is.
Praise the Lord. Shout it out!
How is Yahweh is great?
What are his works? How are his works great?
What are his judgments? How are his judgments great?
Exalt in his greatness!
Take time to laud his works to those around you, as it says in verse 4, Psalm 145:4 “4 One generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts.”
How is Yahweh good?
What are examples of his compassion?
How has he shown his lovingkindness?
Bless him for his goodness!
As it says in verse 10, give thanks to Yahweh for those things.
Why is it good that Yahweh is Reigning?
How does his eternal dominion give you hope?
Exalt Yahweh for his reign!
Talk about his reign. Talk about his coming kingdom. Talk about him working all things out for the good of those who love him, as our good, loving king. The king with plans to prosper us, to give us hope and a future!
How is Yahweh is Gracious?
When has Yahweh sustained you when you fell? How has he raised you up?
How has Yahweh provided for you?
When has Yahweh heard your cry, and how has he shown himself near to you?
When has he heard your cry for help?
Write these things down. Make a list.
Exalt Him! Bless Him! Praise Him each day this week.
Then see how this helps with those wrong thoughts that come with the trials.
Instead of thinking God does not care, you will know and say, He does care! He heard me when I cried to him.
Instead of thinking God is distant, you will say, it feels like he is distant, but I know he is near!
Instead of thinking God must be punishing me, you will know he is the compassionate God who has shown me grace, sustaining me when I fell and raising me up!
Make your list. Muse on who Yahweh is and what he has done. Laud him.
Praise Yahweh for daily for his gracious acts toward you!
And see the change it will work in you.
