Week 5 – Priscilla
Week 5 – Priscilla
Big Idea:
Lasting impact in God’s kingdom is often built through faithful partnership, intentional discipleship, and investing in others behind the scenes.
Priscilla’s life shows that spiritual maturity is not just about what we know, but who we help grow.
When we take responsibility for discipling others, we multiply the work of the gospel far beyond ourselves.
Prayer:
“Lord, help us to faithfully invest in others and take responsibility for the growth of those You’ve placed in our lives.
Teach us to live beyond ourselves, so that through us, Your truth is multiplied and Your kingdom is strengthened.”
Key Verse: Acts 18:26 —
“They invited him to their home and explained to him the way of God more adequately.”
Main Scripture: Acts 18:24–26
Introduction
Introduction
As we come to the final week of this series, Strong Women of the Bible, it’s worth pausing for a moment and looking back at what we’ve seen together.
- We’ve seen the strength of Deborah—who listened to God and stepped up when others stepped back.
- We’ve seen the faith of Rahab—who believed God and found her story completely rewritten.
- We’ve seen the courage of Esther—who stepped into her moment and became part of God’s deliverance.
- And we’ve seen the surrender of Mary—who trusted God with her entire life, even when it cost her everything.
And when you put all of those stories together, something beautiful begins to emerge.
Strength in God’s kingdom isn’t loud.
It isn’t always seen.
And it isn’t about platform or recognition.
It’s about faithfulness.
It’s about saying yes to God in whatever season you’re in— whether that’s leading, believing, stepping forward, or surrendering.
And today, as we close this series, we’re going to see one more layer of what true strength looks like
Because what happens after you say yes to God?
What happens after the moment… after the decision… after the surrender?
That’s where Priscilla’s story meets us.
Because Priscilla doesn’t have one defining moment like Deborah or Esther.
She doesn’t have a dramatic turning point like Rahab.
She doesn’t have a single life-altering announcement like Mary.
Instead, her life is marked by something quieter— but just as powerful.
Faithful investment over a long period of time.
Intentional discipleship and partnership in the work of God.
Acts 18:26 tells us that she and her husband
“invited him into their home and explained to him the way of God more adequately.”
No stage.
No spotlight.
Just obedience.
And yet—through that kind of faithfulness, the gospel spreads, leaders are shaped, and the Church is strengthened.
So here’s what we’re going to discover today:
Some of the greatest impact you will ever have won’t come from a single moment…but from a life that is consistently poured into others.
Because in God’s kingdom, strength isn’t just about what He does in you— it’s about what He does through you into others.
And that kind of life?
That kind of life multiplies.
Main Teaching
Main Teaching
Before we can understand the impact Priscilla had, we need to notice the kind of life she lived.
Because her influence didn’t come from a title or a public platform—it came from years of quiet faithfulness and partnership.
So let’s begin by looking at the foundation of her life and why God was able to use her so powerfully.
Point 1: God Uses Faithful Partnerships to Build His Kingdom
Point 1: God Uses Faithful Partnerships to Build His Kingdom
When we’re introduced to Priscilla in Acts 18, she’s not alone.
Acts 18:2 says that Paul
“met a Jew named Aquila… with his wife Priscilla,”
and because they shared the same trade, “he stayed and worked with them.”
From the very beginning, Priscilla’s story is connected to partnership.
She’s not operating in isolation.
She’s not building something on her own.
She’s living out her faith alongside others—her husband, and later, the Apostle Paul…
And this matters more than we might realize.
Because we often think of impact in terms of individual influence— “What can I do?” “How can I make a difference?”
But the New Testament paints a different picture.
It shows us that God’s kingdom is often built through shared lives, shared mission, and shared faithfulness.
Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 says,
“Two are better than one… If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.”
Priscilla lived that out.
She and Aquila worked together.
They ministered together.
They opened their lives and their home together.
In fact, when Paul later writes about them in Romans 16:3, he says,
“Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my co-workers in Christ Jesus.”
Co-workers.
Not spectators.
Not occasional helpers…
They were fully engaged in the work of the gospel—together.
And here’s something else that’s easy to miss:
In several places in Scripture, Priscilla’s name is mentioned before Aquila’s (Acts 18:18, Romans 16:3).
That’s not typical for that culture.
It suggests that she was not just present— she was active, engaged, and influential in the ministry they shared.
This was a true partnership.
And here’s why this matters for us:
We were never meant to follow Jesus alone.
Faith is personal—but it’s not private.
God places people in our lives—friends, spouses, mentors, community— not just for support, but for shared mission.
1 Corinthians 3:9 says,
“For we are co-workers in God’s service…”
That’s the calling.
To live in such a way that our lives are intertwined with others for the sake of what God is doing.
And this challenges the way we often think.
Because some people are waiting to make a difference on their own— waiting for the right moment, the right platform, the right opportunity.
But Priscilla shows us that impact often begins much simpler than that.
It begins with who you walk with.
Who you serve alongside.
Who you commit to growing with.
Before she ever teaches Apollos… before her name is ever remembered…she’s faithfully living in partnership.
And that becomes the foundation for everything God does through her.
Because in God’s kingdom, some of the greatest impact doesn’t come from standing alone—it comes from walking faithfully together.
Point 2: Spiritual Maturity Is Measured by Who You Help Grow
Point 2: Spiritual Maturity Is Measured by Who You Help Grow
As the story continues in Acts 18, we’re introduced to a man named Apollos.
Show Pepper: Can you start us off, Who is this Apollos?
Acts 18:24–25 says,
“Meanwhile a Jew named Apollos… came to Ephesus. He was a learned man, with a thorough knowledge of the Scriptures. He had been instructed in the way of the Lord, and he spoke with great fervor and taught about Jesus accurately, though he knew only the baptism of John.”
So here’s the picture:
Apollos is gifted.
He’s passionate.
He knows Scripture.
He’s already teaching publicly.
From the outside, he looks like someone who has it all together.
But there’s a gap.
He’s sincere—but incomplete in his understanding.
He knew only the baptism of John
The Bible tells us that Apollos only knew about the baptism of John.
John the Baptist was the man who preached in the desert, telling people to say sorry for their bad choices and get baptized in the river to prepare for the Messiah.
Apollos knew that Jesus was the Messiah, but he didn’t know everything that happened after John.
He didn’t know the full story about Jesus dying on the cross, bursting out of the tomb, sending the Holy Spirit like wind and fire, and building the global church!
And this is where Priscilla and Aquila step in.
Acts 18:26 says,
“They invited him into their home and explained to him the way of God more adequately.”
Don’t rush past that.
They didn’t embarrass him publicly.
They didn’t correct him from a distance.
They didn’t criticize him behind his back.
They invited him in.
Into their home.
Into relationship.
Into a space where growth could happen.
And then they invested in him.
They took what they knew… and they poured it into someone else.
That’s discipleship.
Not just gaining knowledge— but passing it on.
2 Timothy 2:2 says,
“And the things you have heard me say… entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.”
That’s multiplication.
Paul → Timothy → others → more.
And right in the middle of that same pattern, you have Priscilla.
Quietly, faithfully, and intentionally investing in someone who would go on to have a significant impact in the kingdom.
Because after this moment,
Acts 18:28 tells us that Apollos
“vigorously refuted his Jewish opponents in public debate, proving from the Scriptures that Jesus was the Messiah.”
His ministry expands.
His clarity deepens.
His effectiveness grows.
Why?
Because someone took the time to invest in him.
And here’s where this hits home for us:
We often measure spiritual maturity by what we know.
How much Scripture we understand.
How long we’ve been following Jesus.
How confident we feel in our faith.
But Scripture pushes us further.
Spiritual maturity is not just about what you know— it’s about who you help grow.
Hebrews 5:12 says,
“Though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you…”
There’s an expectation…That growth leads to responsibility.
That what God pours into you is meant to flow through you.
And that’s what Priscilla understood.
She didn’t just receive the truth— she shared it.
She didn’t just grow personally— she helped someone else grow intentionally.
And she did it in a way that was relational, humble, and effective.
No spotlight.
No recognition.
Just a life invested in someone else…
And that kind of investment?
It multiplies far beyond what you can see.
Point 3: Lasting Impact Is Built Through Consistent, Behind-the-Scenes Faithfulness
Point 3: Lasting Impact Is Built Through Consistent, Behind-the-Scenes Faithfulness
By the time we step back and look at Priscilla’s life as a whole, one thing becomes clear:
There is no single defining moment.
No dramatic scene like Esther before the king.
No sudden calling like Mary.
No battlefield victory like Deborah.
Instead, what we see is something quieter— but just as powerful.
Consistency.
Acts 18 shows her working alongside Paul in Corinth.
Then in Ephesus.
Then later, Paul mentions her again in Romans 16:3–5:
“Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my co-workers in Christ Jesus. They risked their lives for me… Greet also the church that meets at their house.”
Did you catch that?
They opened their home.
They hosted the church.
They created space for people to gather, grow, and be strengthened in their faith.
This was their lifestyle.
This was their pattern and rhythm.
Over and over again, in different places, across different seasons— Priscilla is doing the same thing:
Showing up.
Serving faithfully.
Investing in others.
Making room for God to work.
And that’s where lasting impact is built…Not just in big moments— but in daily obedience.
Galatians 6:9 says,
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
That’s Priscilla’s life.
She didn’t quit.
She didn’t drift.
She didn’t wait for recognition.
She stayed faithful.
And over time, that faithfulness multiplied.
And here’s what we need to see:
The kind of impact most people want is often built in ways most people overlook.
It’s built in conversations.
In opened homes.
In small, intentional moments of investment.
It’s built when no one is watching.
Luke 16:10 says,
“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much…”
Priscilla was faithful in what seemed small— and God used it for something significant.
And this should challenges us:
Because we live in a world that celebrates visibility, power, and platform.
But God values faithfulness.
The question is not, “Am I being seen?”
The question is, “Am I being faithful?”
Because when you live that way— when you consistently show up, invest in others, and make space for God to work— your life begins to multiply.
Priscilla didn’t chase influence…She lived faithfully.
And because of that, her impact continues far beyond her lifetime.
Conclusion:
Conclusion:
A Life That Multiplies Beyond You
As we come to the end of this series, Strong Women of the Bible, take a moment and look at the full picture of what we’ve seen.
Deborah showed us the strength to listen
—to be formed by God before stepping into the moment.
Rahab showed us the strength to believe and act
—to trust God enough to let Him rewrite our story.
Esther showed us the strength to step forward with courage
—to embrace the moment God has placed us in.
- Mary showed us the strength to surrender
—to trust God with our entire lives, even when it costs us something.
And now Priscilla shows us the strength to stay faithful
—to invest in others, to disciple, to live a life that multiplies over time.
And when you put all of that together, this is what real strength looks like:
Listening.
Believing.
Stepping forward.
Surrendering.
And staying faithful.
Not just for one moment.
It should become A way of life.
Because the goal of following Jesus is not just to have a powerful moment— it’s to live a faithful life.
A life where you walk closely with God.
A life where you trust Him deeply.
A life where you step into what He’s calling you to do.
And a life where you pour into others so that what He’s doing in you doesn’t stop with you.
That’s the invitation in front of us today!
So the question as we leave this series is not, “Which woman do I relate to most?”
The question should be: “Where is God calling me to grow right now?”
Close up view -
Do I need to slow down and listen like Deborah?
Do I need to trust Him with my past like Rahab?
Do I need to step into a moment I’ve been avoiding like Esther?
Do I need to surrender something I’ve been holding onto like Mary?
Or do I need to start investing in others like Priscilla?
Because if you take even one step in that direction— your life begins to change.
And over time, it doesn’t just change your life… it impacts others…It multiplies.
Remember this Love Ones; God is still raising up people like this.
People who listen.
People who believe.
People who step forward.
People who surrender.
People who stay faithful.
Ordinary people… living lives of quiet strength… through whom God does extraordinary things.
So don’t let this just be a series you heard…Let it be a life you live.
Because when you do— your story, just like theirs, becomes part of something far greater than yourself.
Let’s pray together.
Let’s pray together.
Salvation:
Salvation:
The Word of God says in: John 3:16
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
If you’d would like to receive Jesus today, please pray this prayer with all of us:
Lord I believe that Jesus is the Son of God, and that He died On the cross for my sins and His resurrection from the dead gives me eternal life. I ask forgiveness of my sins, and I accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Amen.
