A Christian Doesn't Drink Alcohol (John 2:1-11)

How come we don’t tell people it’s ok to use social heroin, or social cocaine? It’s ok to snort a little, maybe use a little meth when you’re tired. NO! It’s only with wine.

Effects of Alcohol

Proverbs 20:1 “Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: And whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.”
Alcohol never saved a marriage, a home, made parents better, or life better.
Billy Sunday - “The food to feed your family well is in the grocery stores, but you spend your money over the bar and your family goes hungry.”
Isaiah 28:1 “Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, Whose glorious beauty is a fading flower, Which are on the head of the fat valleys of them that are overcome with wine!”
Isaiah 28:7–8 “But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; The priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, They are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; They err in vision, they stumble in judgment. For all tables are full of vomit and filthiness, So that there is no place clean.”
Two people that were saved
Genesis 9:19 (Noah)
Genesis 19:30 (Lot)
1 Corinthians 6:12 “All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.”
Spurgeon - “How is the word of God likely to operate upon a conscience that has been drenched and drowned by strong drink?”

Exemption of Alcohol

Proverbs 23:29-35
Proverbs 31:4-7
1 Thessalonians 5:22 “Abstain from all appearance of evil.”
When I see someone drinking, my first thought is not “man, they must love Jesus! They must be a Christian!”
Romans 14:21 “It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.”

Engorging of the Spirit

Ephesians 5:6-21
The issue isn’t just merely, “How close can I get to the line?”, but “what will help me remain sober, vigilant, and self-controlled.
We need to be under the influence of the Spirit, not spirits.
