Forgiveness is our Faith In Action
Forgiveness is our Faith In Action
20 And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. 21 And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away. 22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. 23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. 24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. 25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. 26 But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.

After Peter had made his statement Jesus realize that this was s good time to teach about prayer. Look with me if you will on how Jesus responded.

King James Version Chapter 11
22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, sHave faith in God.
It’s interesting that this lesion on the prayer of faith grew out of Peter’s calling attention to the fig tree. You see, the first step in prayer must be faith in God. The writer to the Hebrews stated this same principle ().

If you don’t believe in God, my friend, then the skeptic is certainly correct when he says that prayer is a madman talking to himself. So you see Having faith in God is the first step. Look at verse 23

23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
This verse my brother and my sisters is so misunderstood today. For you see we as Christians don’t need to throw mountains around literally, but we need power for living and meeting the daily mountains of cares and problems. This is why Paul could pray for the Ephesians, “That he would grant you’ according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man” (). Don’t pray for me that I’ll be able to move mountains. For I see no point in moving mountains. And if I did- move them, where in the world would I put them? But my brothers and my sisters let me tell you that I would like to be strengthened with might by the Holy Spirit in the inner That, my friend, would be greater than moving a mountain. That’s the thing that is Important and is, what I feel, that He is talking about as He gives them this visible illustration to show what prayer can do. Listen to what Jesus said in verse 24

Don’t pray for me that I’ll be able to move mountains. For I see no point in moving mountains. And if I did- move them, where in the world would I put them? let me tell you that I would like to be strengthened with might by the Holy Spirit in the inside. That my natural, physical life would be led and directed by the Spirit of God, that I might be used by God that some would be saved and to glorify His Holy name.

King James Version Chapter 11
24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
Here Jesus is saying When we are really living in touch with the Lord and praying in the Spirit, we can have the assurance of answered prayer before the answer actually comes. So as I close here today look with me at verse 25-26

King James Version Chapter 11
25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. 26 But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.
For you see my brothers and my sisters one of the basic requirements for answered prayer is a forgiving spirit. For if we nurse a harsh, vindictive attitude toward others, we cannot expect God to hear and answer us. We must forgive if we are to be forgiven. For an unforgiving spirit will short-circuit the power of prayer, and that’s important to understand. Because an unforgiving spirit in a believer breaks fellowship with the Father in heaven and hinders the flow of blessing. So my brothers and my sisters if you and I are going to have power in our lives we must pray and have faith in God. We have to put our faith in action and believe that the word of God is true.
There seems to be a catch 22 a requirement of sorts to having prayers answered we must pray in the spirit and have a forgiving spirit. For if we nurse a harsh, vindictive attitude toward others, we cannot expect God to answer us our prayers. God wont have us running around casting every one into the depths of hell..... a quick example can be found in
22 Let their table become a snare before them:
And that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap.
23 Let their eyes be darkened, that they see not;
And make their loins continually to shake.
24 Pour out thine indignation upon them,
And let thy wrathful anger take hold of them.
25 Let their habitation be desolate;
And let none dwell in their tents.
26 For they persecute him whom thou hast smitten;
And they talk to the grief of those whom thou hast wounded.
27 Add iniquity unto their iniquity:
And let them not come into thy righteousness.
28 Let them be blotted out of the book of the living,
And not be written with the righteous.
(the difference here in Davids rant is that he starts psl 69 by asking for forgiveness. )
