S-1> TEXT: 1 Corinthians 10:1-13 KEY VERSE: 1 Corinthians 10:13
TEXT: 1 Corinthians 10:1-13
1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat;
4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
5 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.
7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.
9 Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.
10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.
11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
KEY VERSE: 1 Corinthians 10:13
S-2-KV> 1 Corinthians 10:13
13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
INTRODUCTION:
S-3> What has God asked us to do?
How many of God’s commands are impossible for us to obey?
S-4> When God asks us to do something, does He help us do it and give us both the strength and ability to complete it?
Deliverance Through Baptism
The Destination Of A Lifetime
(# 4)
S-5> This is the fourth in the series, “The Destination Of A Lifetime.”
S-5> This message is entitled, “Deliverance Through Baptism.”
S-6> God only wants the best for us and He helps us be the best we can be.
Surrendering our life to God, means trusting Him to help us and be there for us, when we face situations we don’t understand.
Throughout this series we will be looking at a reoccurring thought:
S-7> Where you have been is not nearly as important as where you are going.
S-8-CF> Walking with God is a lifetime journey, not a quick fix for life.
S-9> 1) Baptism God’s Way.
S-10> 1 Corinthians 10:2
2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
A death, burial, and a resurrection.
S-11> Romans 6:3-4
3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
S-12> Jesus was baptized for our example.
S-13> Matthew 3:13-17
13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
14 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Baptism represents that a complete change has taken place and now you are going in a new direction. You are leaving the past behind and you are moving forward with God.
S-9> 1) Baptism God’s Way.
S-14> 2) Consume Spiritual Things.
S-15> 1 Corinthians 10:4
4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
We eat physically to stay alive.
S-16> Spiritually, we must eat the right things to stay spiritually healthy and alive.
S-17> Matthew 4:4
4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
S-18> The “Bread of Life” or The “Word of God” sustains us.
S-19> The “Spirit of God” or The “Holy Spirit” refreshes us.
S-20> John 6:51-56
51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
52 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?
53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
S-21> John 15:7
7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
These healthy spiritual things help us grow strong and stay strong.
S-22> Romans 10:17
17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
S-9> 1) Baptism God’s Way.
S-14> 2) Consume Spiritual Things.
S-23> 3) Forsake Worldly Lusts.
S-24> 1 Corinthians 10:6-10
6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.
7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.
9 Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.
10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.
S-25> The flesh wants to keep doing what it has been doing, but you must resist the world, the flesh, and the devil.
S-26> James 4:7-8
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
S-27> 1 John 4:4
4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
S-28> 1 John 5:4-5
4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
Keep your eyes open, watch for the traps of the enemy, surround yourself with good, faithful people that will pray for you and keep you accountable in your walk with Christ.
S-29> 1 Peter 1:13-15
13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
S-9> 1) Baptism God’s Way.
S-14> 2) Consume Spiritual Things.
S-23> 3) Forsake Worldly Lusts.
S-30> 4) Learn From The Past.
S-31> 1 Corinthians 10:11
11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
S-32> Learn from the past, don’t live in it.
S-33> Where you have been is not nearly as important as where you are going.
God filled the Bible with examples of people who were successful and those who failed. As we read the Bible we can see how to live and honor God.
S-34> Learn from your own past, but don’t live in it.
When you make a mistake, ask God to forgive you and help you not to repeat it. Learn from what God’s Word teaches you.
Use the Word of God against the devil and combat him with the Word.
Jesus used the Word against the devil and we must do the same thing.
S-35> Learn the Bible so you can apply and live the Bible.
S-9> 1) Baptism God’s Way.
S-14> 2) Consume Spiritual Things.
S-23> 3) Forsake Worldly Lusts.
S-30> 4) Learn From The Past.
S-36> 5) Remain Humble And Faithful.
S-37> 1 Corinthians 10:12
12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
It is when we begin to think that we can walk this walk all by ourselves, when we begin to think that we don’t need to pray and ask God for strength and guidance or read our Bible daily, that we are heading for trouble.
S-38> The Lord will help you do things His way, not the world’s way.
The Holy Spirit will speak to you and direct you; listen to Him.
S-39> Isaiah 30:21
21 And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, When ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.
S-40> Be attentive to the Word of God and know that God keeps His Word.
S-41-KV> 1 Corinthians 10:13
13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
CONCLUSION:
S-42> Spiritually, we are in a battle.
Stay focused; watch out for your Brother and Sister.
S-43> There are not any little temptations or little traps of the enemy.
S-44> The devil is tricky and manipulative.
Keep your armor on and stay alert.
S-45> Ephesians 6:10-18
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
S-9> 1) Baptism God’s Way.
S-14> 2) Consume Spiritual Things.
S-23> 3) Forsake Worldly Lusts.
S-30> 4) Learn From The Past.
S-36> 5) Remain Humble And Faithful.
S-7> Where you have been is not nearly as important as where you are going.
S-46> 1) Baptism God’s Way.
2) Consume Spiritual Things.
3) Forsake Worldly Lusts.
4) Learn From The Past.
