We are starting a new series today
I am very excited about
Called fact check
How many of you have ever been told something before
Afterwards you were like
EHHHH I don’t know if thats legit?
How many of you right int he moment have said that?
When you fact something. what do you do????
What do we go to??
We use books
Videos
Google
Articles
The news
We use the resources that we have to be able to determine if something is true or false
WHY DO I SAY ALL THAT?
Because very often we don’t
There are tons of time that we don’t
How many of you have been told something by someone and totally believed it,
and later found out it was totally not true
it happens more often than you think
So as we go through this series
We are going to be looking at the things that are said in our culture very often, that are not true.
Now Disclaimer
These aren’t all like curse words
Anti god phrases
But they are phrases that we often hear
Or maybe we even say
But They Go against the truth of what the Bible teaches
Why talk about this?
I think it is important for us not only because
We need to watch the things that we say
But because it is easy to just do what everybody else is doing
Its easy to just go with the flow
my prayer is not only that you would scripture better
But know better the character of God

Intro 2

The phrase and mentality that we are going to talk about today is
the phrase “Thats My truth.”
How many of you have ever heard someone say that before?
or maybe “Thats how I see it”
or “Thats my interpretation”
In very recent years
This thought process has become atlot more prevelnt
Last week we talked about how we live in a world
Thinks it can do whatever it wants to do all the time
Likwise we live in a world
That thinks truth can be whatever we want it to be
For some of us
This may seem obvious
But when there are people in our life that don’t know the Lord
They have no sense of the Bible
They don’t have a sense of the truth that comes from God
And because of that they live in constant state of questioning
“is this thing real”
“is that thing real”
When you do that long enough
You start think and feel
I can have my own truth
Something that is real to me
All that being said
I want to talk about truth this morning
Not only how do we know what is true
But likewise
How do we make sure that we are not falling into this train of thought of “My truth”

1. Always Always Always Always go to scripture first

This may sound so obvious for some of us
But we always go to the Bible first when searching for truth
Because the entire Bible is true and perfect
There is nothing in this book that is just a story
There is nothing in this book that could have been false
Everything in here is exactly what God wanted it to be
Why is that so important
John 1:1–3 “In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him.”
In the beginning was the Word
However the Bible also tells us that in the beginning was God
meaning that everything found in the Word is directly from God
God used these people of this world to write his words
So if we want to know what the truth is we go to the one that is perfect
Why does that matter so much?
This is the one place that you can find the confirmed word of God
Yeah there is prayer
Yeah there is importance in church and sermons \
But this is the living breathing word of God
YOU CAN’T GET THAT ANYWHERE ELSE
Here is what I want you to hear this morning
The Bible should be your go to tool in your tool box
How many of you know my father-in-law Darrin
Maybe youv’e seen him in here
He does sound for us once a month
Next time you see him say hi
But I remember when Delaney and I first Got married
Darrin gave me a random tool bag
with hand-me-down tools
I remember there was 1 specfic tool that he gave me that always stood out
That was this level
I have used this thing so much
I remember he saw me using it one time
He told me how when it used to be his
How much he used it
He started talking about all of these different things
For the longest time
That was his go to Level
if he needed one
Thats what he used
Why do I say all of this?
The same way that that level was the go-to tool
Thats how your Bible should be in your life
We all can be better about how much we read
And how much time we spend in the word
Likewise we need to know
that God gave us that tool for a reason
Use the tool of the Bible
It is so important that we do that

2. The Truth isn’t always easy to know

1 Corinthians 13:12–13 “Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely. Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.”
Paul is talking in this scripture about the gifts of the Spirit
I love as he is talking about it
He says that “He see’s things incomplete”
But one day when we spend eternity with the Lord in Heaven
everything will be made clear for us
In other words
There are things in life now we don’t fully understand
and things that we don’t fully know the answers too
How many of you can realte to that?
You feel like there are things that you don’t fully know the answers to?
I think that holds true for all of us
We don’t always get stuff
I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE THINKING
“Adam you just told us to use the Bible”
Thats true
You should
And there are so many things in the Bible
that are clear as day about how we should live
The 10 commandments
Love your neighbor as yourself
faith without works is dead
But don’t get me wrong
There are times that we can still become confused
There are situations that you are put in
Our relationships with friends or families
Where we don’t have the answers of what we should say
What we should do
Sometimes not even what we should think
We don’t always know the truth
And what I want to you about that this morning
THATS OKAY
There are times when you are not going to always get things right the first time
There are times that you may mix things up
follow something that isn’t the truth
Its important for us to know
Because some of us are perfectionist out there
And you want to know the right theological question to every single answer
Believe me I get it
I was that kid
I get so wound up in wanting to have logical black and white answers to everyhting about God
There are some things that just come down to faith
We have learn to be okay with that
Here is what I want you to hear this morning
Its okay for us to question. its not okay to quit
How many of you know who that is?
Thomas Edison, who knows what he is famous for?
In 1879 Thomas Edison invented the Light bulb
Thomas Edison during his many trials
went through thousands upon thousands of tests trying to create the light bulb
And what stands out to me
Which is probably one of his most famous quotes
That many of you have maybe heard before
Thomas Edison was once asked about his many many many failures trying to create the light bulb
His response was this:
“I haven’t failed 10,000 times. I just learned 10,000 ways that don’t work.”
Why does that stand out to me so much
It stands out because is shows the power of not quitting
could you imagine if Thomas Edison Did quit
If he did give up
Man I a thankful for lights
But I say that even more so because in our walk with God there are many times that we want answers
“God why is this like this”
“God how come this happened”
I believe so often because of
lack of patience
Peer pressure
also false teaching
whats popular on social media
We don’t continue to go to the Lord
I would go even farther to say
Some of us are so close to recieving direction from the Lord
But we give up before he can give it to us
WE ARE SO SO CLOSE
But we quit
We give up
I want to remind you this morning to not give up
God’s timing is perfect

3. “Your truth” will always be a downgrade from God’s

John 8:31–32 “Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.””
How many of ya’ll know what Hot keys are?
Hot keys are various keyboard combinations that you can click that will do different things
And the reason they are called hot keys
Because usually it is faster to press the key combinations
Than it is to click to do the thing you want it to do
What some you guys know?
Cntrl + C Cntrl + V Copy and past
Can I will never forget when I learned one specifc hot Key
And that is only one windows computer
But it is The windows key + L
Why did this matter so much to me
At my old job they used to always make us lock out our work computers
So this was so much faster than having to click to lock out the computer
Why do I say all of this?
in my brain before
I thought the only way that I could log out of the computer was by clicking through all of these menus
I thought that was it
Thats the truth
Thats just how it has to be down
When in reality that so wasn’t true
There was a whole other way to do it
So much faster so much easier
So much better
The same exact thing applies to “our truths” that we create
This may not apply to all of us
But I gaurntee you think of someone in your life
that is convinced you about something in their life
Could be a friend
Family member
You found out at some point that that thing was not true
This will only work if you do it this way
God only cares about me if I go to church on Sundays
This friend will only listen if I treat them this way
They will only let me fit in if I act this way
I want to tell you today
Don’t forfeit the truth of the Lord for what you have created
It is always so much cheaper
Even if the truth that you have created you think sounds better
“Oh I can date whoever I want to”
“I can say what I want. They can just deal with it”
“I can drive however fast I feel like”
Sounds better
But its not better
Becauase its not true
Don’t get into the habit of convincing yourself of things that aren’t true
God knows what is best for us, and his plan is better than anything we can come up with

4. Don’t keep the truth to yourself

Romans 10:14–15 “But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!””
I remember when I worked at Meijer
There was one night that I was closing the store completely by myself
Which normally never happened
I remember I am walking through the store
I get this phone call
“Hey we just had a customer come into the store and they said that an old man fell off his scooter in the parking lot”
“Oh crap”
“Is Kelly here?”
“What about Erik”
“You are the only manager closing tonight”
I had this moment where I realized I was it
I was the only person that was going to be able to help
But even more there is paperwork
Reporting
Emails
Phone calls
All sorts of stuff that you have fill out when someone gets hurt
I say all of that
becasue I was the only one with information to do that
I was the only one with the know how to make that happen
FOR SOME PEOPLE
You may be the only person they interact with that knows the truth about who God is
We can know the truth, but our responsibility is to take action
i am not saying that you are going to save the world over night
But we know the truth of who God is
We should not just keep that for ourselves
Because the truth is
People want to know the truth
We have talked about this on Wednesday
ALL PEOPLE ask
Who am I?
Why am I here?
Whats the point to all of this?
Only God has those answers
“Your truth” won’t tell you that
