Freedom! What is it?

Who can’t wait till they are 18?
What do you most look forward to?
Freedom is something we all want.
North Korea
This included requiring families that live near the border areas to take turns standing guard, having strong official warnings that three generations of a family would be destroyed if caught defecting, as well as having the defector being executed on-site.
1,276 Defected in 2015 despite this strict law.
What are they escaping for? For freedom

a: the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action

b: liberation from slavery or restraint or from the power of another:

So freedom is something we all want right?
But i would submit to you that freedom excludes some activities.
Old Subaru vs New Subaru oil change. Following the rules gives me freedom.
So we see that true freedom requires boundaries. Doing what ever we want isn’t freedom because our choices will lead us to serve something. The question is what who would you like to serve?
34 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. 35 The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
Think of this. God is the most free person. He can create galaxies plants animals and love like no other. He is the most free person ever. But there are things that God CAN’T do. He can’t lie he can’t steal and he can’t be evil. But not being able to do these things aren’t a hindrance to his freedom.
So freedom requires us to submit to the one person who can truly define freedom and to HIS truth.
What does God say freedom is?

31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

To have freedom we must submit to truth. Truth sets us free.
Like i said before the truth of what my Subaru requires gives me freedom.
Unfortunately many people today will tell you that truth is relative.
Again think back to my Subaru. It doesn’t matter what you believe you can’t but what ever oil you want in it to make it run. You can’t believe hard enough that putting water in the gas tank will make it run. You have to keep to the makers instructions to keep the car running. To have true freedom.
This is the same with our lives. God’s truth keeps our lives running the way they should. If we try any other way we will ultimately end up a slave.
The biggest truth that we need to accept is that Jesus came to die for us to save us from slavery. He is the ultimate truth.
This is why we study the bible because Jesus is truth so everything he says is truth.
If you haven’t placed your faith in Jesus as saviour and truth i urge you to talk to one of the leaders about what that means!
And look at the offer that Jesus has given us. Freedom. Freedom to love and live life like it was meant to be. This week i pray that we can experience real freedom that comes from real truth
