The people of this world had rejected Jesus and soon they would be crucifying Him upon the cross. This placed them under God’s divine judgment ().
v.18 condemned already is a present judgment. But there is also a future judgment as well (; , ). *2 Thess 1:5-10
Now I want you to know that this
To defeat the ruler of this world. v 31b
This is what God promised () the protoevangelium, or “the first gospel.” This verse is the first promise of redemption in Scripture.
Secondly, to pay our sin debt (,). tells us that the devil is the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, he who accuses them before our God day and night. To draw us to Jesus Christ. v 32
When Jesus will draw “all” me to myself he is not talking about a universal salvation. When Jesus was lifted up on the cross did “all men” draw to Him? No, they mocked him, others looked at him with disdain and shame. Turn to .
v. 34 They are dividing his garments. v.35 People are glaring at him, Rulers were sneering (ridicule, turn ones nose up) at Him. v.36-38 other soldiers are mocking (empaizo - make fun of) him. v39. a criminal who are hung next to Jesus is mocking Him. But something happen, there was one who was drawn to Jesus v.40-43.
What drew this criminal to Jesus at this moment? It was God turn to , now look at 6:65.
God draws whom He will to draw. Mankind is spiritually dead, for we are by nature enslaved to sin and are unable to choose to believe in Jesus unless God draws us by His divine grace. who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity.
Turn to Eph 2:1-9
So lets rejoice in the lifted up Christ. We who have been drawn to Jesus by God ought to rejoice continually for by grace we have been saved.
