Definitions for Meekness

It is strength under control
It does not mean weakness and being a doormat
Having humility, being teachable & patient (even during suffering)
No attitude of being “better-than-thou”
An attitude regarding oneself rather than someone else

The patient and hopeful endurance of undesirable circumstances identifies the person as externally vulnerable and weak but inwardly resilient and strong.

The use of the Greek word when applied to animals makes this clear, for it means “tame” when applied to wild animals. In other words, such animals have not lost their strength but have learned to control the destructive instincts that prevent them from living in harmony with others.

Another word that reflects meekness in a man, is the word, “gentleman.”
The word gentle is closely connected to “meek”
This is not someone who is weak or depressed, but someone, who has strength under control. There is no need to make a display of strength.
We can all probably remember someone who was a “show-off.” That person who talked about them self, describing what they could all do, or maybe showing you how they were stronger, smarter, or richer. This is not the character of the meek.
Does meekness mean passive?
Why would it be true that the meek inherit the earth?
Two men, who both said they were meek

Moses

Numbers 12:3 KJV 1900
(Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.)
Originally, Moses was not meek. He was the Pharaoh's son and he knew it. He may even have believed that he was the one who should bring deliverance to the children of Isreal so they would no longer be slaves. He was confident and strong.
He killed an Egyptian who was beating up a Hebrew -when he was 40
After he fled Egypt chased off several shepherds so the daughters of Midian could get water
40 years later (80 years old), he was still strong, but his view of himself changed.
Exodus 3:11 KJV 1900
And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?

Jesus

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
Matthew 21:4–5 KJV 1900
All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.
Ancient kings of the middle east would describe themselves as meek
Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.
