Introduction
We are finally here.
The day has come when all the planning of the big as well as the small details come together.
You know actually, weddings used to be a seven-day celebration.
Not so much to make it official, but to rejoice with those who had gotten married.
And although much has changed between then and now it is still a time of celebration and joy for both families.
Body
Now the time has come to take the next step in this loving union before those you hold so dearly to your hearts.
We love what God shows us through Scripture in about a relationship within a marital union.
This is mainly because it also shows us marriage’s true purpose which is to portray the love God has for us through and to each other.
It begins by reminding us we are to submit to one another in marriage.
It commands the wife to submit to her husband while also commanding the husband to love his wife the way CHRIST loved the church.
And the way Christ ultimately showed his love for the Church was by giving his life for her.
What we are all witnessing today in this holy union is a representation of God and his people.
This portion of the Bible begins by reminding us how important it is to submit to one another in marriage.
It urges the wife to submit to her husband while at the same time challenging the husband to love his wife the way that CHRIST loved the church.
And the way Christ ultimately showed his love for the church was by giving his life for her.
What we are all witnessing today in this holy union is a representation of God and his people.
God compares the relationship between husband and wife to someone caring for their own physical body.
Jack, this Scripture is a challenge for you to show Katie your love for her in every way you know how and more.
There will be times where she might get sick, frustrated or impatient.
In those times remember the promises you are making today.
Katie, this Scripture is also a challenge to you to show Jack your love through your respect for him.
There will be times where you do not agree with each other, but in the end know that the love you have for one another and for God is what will help hold this relationship together.
This Scripture also mentions how the two are united as one.
Today you will have the opportunity to partake in what we call the unity cross ceremony.
Which will symbolically represent the two of you becoming one in the eyes of the Lord.
Conclusion
Something Chris shared at the homily at our wedding not too long ago was to never forget that Lily was a gift.
Today we urge you both to always remember you are a gift to one other and to never take the other for granted.
You have both been brought together for much more than to make each other happy, but to help each other become the best you can be in the eyes of the Lord.
Today you will begin a journey on Earth that will have an impact for the rest of eternity.
