The Work Of The Holy Spirit
The Work Of The Holy Spirit
Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
- You are from God
Old Testament Look Back
The Tabernacle was part of the Law
The law was in three divisions
The commandments - Were an expression of God, He commands what He does because of what He is.
The Judgements - Conditioned the relationship of man toward those about him.
The Ordinances - Conditioned the relationship of man toward God. The instructions for the Tabernacle were found in the ordinances. The ordinances provided a temporary hiding place for the sinner in the presence of the holiness of God.
The Tabernacle proper merely furnished a housing for the furniture
There were seven articles of furniture:
The ark
The mercy-seat
The altar of incense
The table of shewbread
The lampstand of gold
The Laver of brass
The altar of brass
The Brazen Altar
The altar was the first object that confronted the sinner at the entrance of the Tabernacle. It was on the altar that every sacrifice was made in Isreal.
5 Sacrifices were made on this altar
The burnt-offering
The meat-offering
The peace-offering
The trespass-offering
The Sin-Offering

The Laver
You are from God
The Lord said to Moses, “You shall also make a basin of bronze, with its stand of bronze, for washing. You shall put it between the tent of meeting and the altar, and you shall put water in it, with which Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet. When they go into the tent of meeting, or when they come near the altar to minister, to burn a food offering to the Lord, they shall wash with water, so that they may not die. They shall wash their hands and their feet, so that they may not die. It shall be a statute forever to them, even to him and to his offspring throughout their generations.”
The laver was the other article of furniture that stood in the outer court with the brazen altar - brass. It was filled with water. Evidently it had a top part for the washing of the hands, and a lower part, called its foot, for the washing of the feet. All service in the Tabernacle whether in the Holy Place, Holy of Holies, or at the brazen altar, required the one serving to wash at the laver.
The laver was made of a particular selection of brass, the brazen mirrors of the women the women being used.
Exodus
He made the basin of bronze and its stand of bronze, from the mirrors of the ministering women who ministered in the entrance of the tent of meeting.
The laver is related to the Word Of God - A mirror is that to which the Word of God is likened
For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like.
This figure of the Word of God as being a cleansing agency is further enlarged by The Holy Spirit speaking of the cleansing power of the Word.
Ephesians 5:
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,
Ephesians 5:
The Word of God is both likened unto the laver itself, made of brazen mirrors, and unto the water contained in the laver.
Both the substance and purpose of the laver are symbols of the Word of God.
The laver’s primary purpose was for cleansing: the Word of God is for cleansing. ()
The laver was filled with water, and the priests were commanded to wash repeatedly in the service of the Tabernacle. The word washes because it reveals as mirrors.
The water of the laver furnishes a fine figure of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the Word of God what the water was to the laver.
Water is used throughout Scripture as a symbol of the Holy Spirit in cleaning.
Water was given for baptism as a symbol of the true baptism, which is that of the Holy Spirit
for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell?
:
For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit.
Acts
:
Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.” Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
Titus
But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit,
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
Thru the Bible Vol. 38: The Gospels (John 1–10) Jesus Interviews Nicodemus in Jerusalem (Second Word)
I am confident that our Lord, saying that one must be born of water and of the Spirit, referred to the Spirit of God using the Word of God. Without this, Nicodemus could not enter into the kingdom of God.
