Greetings:

Thank you(s):

Announcements:

Text: Whoever believes that aJesus is the Christ is bborn of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and ckeep His commandments. 3 dFor this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And eHis commandments are not burdensome. 4 For fwhatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that ghas overcome the world— 1our faith. 5 Who is he who overcomes the world, but hhe who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?[1]

Prayer for the sermon:

Introduction: Do you ever wonder if all this Christianity stuff is right and true? Do you ever think, maybe I’ve got it all wrong and I should be following something else, or just getting on with the life of making money and putting food on the table?

You are not alone – the people in the church that John writes too have the same questions.

Antithesis: (The condition that the sermon addresses)

Thesis: (The direction and focus of the sermon)

Relevant Question(s):

Synthesis: (Body of the sermon: the points…)

Point One: God

Sub- we are victorious because of God

-born of God, marked by God

Sub- had a choose- pick one

14 “Now fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your forefathers worshiped beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. 15 But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”[2]

Sub-

Point Two: Jesus

Sub- we are victorious through Jesus

Sub- why not Him?

Bush as a leader-sits back and wants

Vs Jesus as a leader-who do you service

Christ feed the five thousand – Bush let Americans go hungry

Christ is a healer – Bush will not give basic health care to the weak

Christ is just and good - Bush is…

Christ is King over all creation - Bush is president of a small territory

Christ defeated death -

“Where, O death, is your victory?

Where, O death, is your sting?”

[3]

            Sub-

Point Three: Christians

Sub- WE ARE VIORTIOUS CHRISTIANS!

Sub- are faith has make us victorious

-little prayer little power, must prayer greater power

-what do you show up with…

                        1498 Umbrellas And Faith

A colored church congregation had met to pray for rain to release a long dry spell. The preacher looked severely at his flock and said:

“Brothers and Sisters, you ll knows why we is here. Now what I wants to know is—where is yo’ umbrellas?”

[4]

Sub- finishing the work of Christ

Closing / Celebration: (Conclusion, summary…)

Christians are not to love the world, belong to the world, or yield to the world. They are overcomers, overcoming the world, the devil (2:13–14), and the false teachers (4:4). They overcome by faith in God’s Word, not by their own power or wisdom[5]

Jesus never promised us a rose garden, but He did promise us rose at the end of the race.

1496 Faith And Doubt

Doubt sees the obstacles.

Faith sees the way!

Doubt sees the darkest night,

Faith sees the day!

Doubt dreads to take a step.

Faith soars on high!

Doubt questions, “Who believes?”

Faith answers, “I!”                           —Gospel Banner
