Introduction

Greetings…
It is good to be back with everyone this morning as we start to come to a conclusion on this Sunday morning series we have been going on “I Want To Go To Heaven” and be with God forever.
Most recently we have looked at the God The Father’s Gift and two weeks ago we finished up looking at God the Son’s Gift.
That means that this morning, we are going to be examining “God The Spirit’s Gift.”
So what is “God the Spirit’s Gift” to mankind?

God’s Written Word

Human Inspiration

There is no doubt that God the Father is where “the word originated from.”
John 5:30 ESV
30 I can do nothing on my own. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just, because I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me.
Matthew 7:21 ESV
21 Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
There is no doubt that God the Son is “the word lived out.”
John 1:1 ESV
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:14 ESV
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
But it is the Holy Spirit that actually delivered this message of God to man to have it written down.
2 Timothy 3:16–17 ESV
16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
1 Corinthians 2:10 ESV
10 these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.
1 Corinthians 2:13 ESV
13 And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.
John 14:26 ESV
26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
Acts 1:16 ESV
16 Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke beforehand by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus.
By the way this has always been the case, not just in the New Testament.
2 Peter 1:20–21 ESV
20 knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. 21 For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
Now this is so significant for you and I because without God’s inspired word written down we would not know how to be saved today and spend all of eternity with God.
2 Timothy 3:16–17 ESV
16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

Summary

Brethren, I want to go to heaven and be with God for all of eternity because God the Spirit loved you and I enough to deliver to us the message of salvation.
To deliver to us and tell us of God the Father’s, God the Son’s, and “his” God the Spirit’s love for you and I.
That alone would be enough for us to want to spend eternity with God the Spirit.
But…the Spirit offers us more gifts.

Intercedes For Us

Our Intermediary In Salvation

As we have talked about before, It is the Holy Spirit that seals us as saved.
Ephesians 1:13–14 ESV
13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.
But that is not all the Spirit does for us in salvation, he also bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.
Romans 8:15–16 ESV
15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God
In other words, we are able to “know we have eternal life” because of the word God has given us.
1 John 5:13 ESV
13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.
God the Spirit also plays a vital part in our spiritual lives in another area I don’t think we often consider or contemplate regularly.
That other vital area is in…

Our Intermediary In Prayer

When we pray we are to pray “in the Spirit” not just “spiritually.”
Notice what Paul wrote in Ephesians 6:18.
Ephesians 6:18 ESV
18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints
What does this mean, praying in the Spirit though?
It means that we understand that when we pray the Holy Spirit is interceding on our behalf.
Romans 8:26–27 ESV
26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27 And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
Now, I have for a long time, thought, preached, and stated on many occasion that when we pray as Christians and are dealing with a difficult situation that we don’t have adequate words to come up with, the Spirit intercedes for us.
In other words, say you lose a dear loved one and are hurting so bad you don’t even know what to say in your prayers, this is when the Spirit intercedes for us.
And though I certainly believe this takes place I have come to realize that is not really the thrust of this passage.
Notice again, the text.
When we go to God in prayer we are by nature (as humanity) in our weakness.
This means, we often do not know what or how to pray for the things we properly need to pray for.
What I’m trying to say is that this isn’t limited to “just those times” when we are so overwhelmed by grief or stress that we can’t think straight.
No, we are being told here that the Holy Spirit intercedes in every prayer on our behalf helping our prayers become “what they need to be” to the Father.
We obviously don’t always know the will of the Father for us in our lives and but the Spirit does.
When we pray for this or that or help in this thing or that thing in our lives, the Spirit intercedes for us “according to the will of God.”
Brother’s and sisters the Spirit was not just “the apostles” Helper.
John 14:26 ESV
26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
No, we the Spirit does not “help us” in this same way today, but he is our Helper who intercedes on our behalf in our every prayer with “groanings too deep for words.”

Summary

I want to go to heaven and be with God forever, and I hope you do to, because God the Spirit has not just given us the written message of salvation though that is so important.
No, the Spirit loves you and I so much that with “groanings too deep for words” he takes our weak prayers, interceding on our behalf, to the Father making them pleasing to the Father by being making them according to his will.
In other words, making our prayers acceptable for God to hear them.

Conclusion

Brothers and sisters, the Spirit of God loves you and I as much as the Father and the Son do.
He in no way has done less than the Father nor the Son when it comes to doing everything possible to help us get to heaven with him.
The Holy Spirit, wants you and I and every soul with him so that he may love us from heaven for all time.
This is only possible if we are living faithfully for him.
Invitation
Isaiah 59:1–2 ESV
1 Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear; 2 but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.
Philippians 2:6–7 ESV
6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
Romans 10:17 ESV
17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
Hebrews 11:6 ESV
6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
Luke 14:33 ESV
33 So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple.
Acts 17:30 ESV
30 The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent
Matthew 10:32–33 NKJV
32 Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. 33 But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.
2 Thessalonians 1:8 ESV
8 in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
1 Corinthians 15:1–4 ESV
1 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures
Romans 6:3–5 ESV
3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.
James 1:12 ESV
12 Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.
