Lesson

Happy third Sunday of Advent!

Next week is your pageant and Christmas! How exciting!

The waiting is almost over.

How many of you remember what we do during advent?

Advent is the season where we get ready to celebrate that Jesus was born. It’s getting ready for Christmas!

One of the most important things we do during Advent, to get ready for Christmas, is we Remember.

We remember all the amazing things that we have because of Jesus.

Give highlighter to anyone who hasn’t recieved one yet.

Who here remembers why I am handing out highlighters? To help us Remember!

And today, while we wait for Christmas we are going to remember one of Jesus’ best gifts… JOY

Joy, according to the bible, is the overflowing feeling we get from being close to God.

It’s similar to feeling happy. We feel happy when we open an exciting present we didn't expect.

But, after a while happiness goes away.

Joy is like happiness that doesn't go away because it’s based on God who never goes away.

In life, sometimes you and I will lose joy, not because God goes away, but because we forget how great he is and how he is still here.

So the highlighter can help us do the most important thing to hang on to joy. What do you think it is...?

REMEMBER!

Candle Lighting

Here is where these candles come in.

Move to advent wreath

Each of these candles help us remember an amazing thing we have because of Jesus.

And each week I want to share a verse from the bible that you can practice remembering.

SLIDE - Psalm 126:3

Today the verse is Psalm 126:3 “The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.”

Today as we light the Joy candle, we remember that God has done great things for his people throughout the years. We remember that he came into this world by sending his son Jesus to save us.

Let’s all say this out loud to highlight it in our minds. “The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.”

Now, you will be heading back to prepare for your pageant, but also ask your grown ups to help your memorize Psalm 126:3, so that you can keep it highlighted in your mind.
