Warning: False Teachers Ahead
Balaam—Donkey
The false teachers denied the Lord who purchased them (v. 1), seduced others with their sensual teaching (v. 2), and exploited others with their covetousness (v. 3).
The focus on the same three sins in 2:10–16 demonstrates that the argument of 2:1–16 falls into an A B A pattern.

The false teachers denied the Lord who purchased them (v. 1), seduced others with their sensual teaching (v. 2), and exploited others with their covetousness (v. 3).
Slander—10, 11, 12
Destroyed, destruction, destroyed, 12
The false teachers are arrogant—so arrogant that they have no problem with slandering celestial beings. (The could be evil demonic beings or good angels but context seems like wicked)
But good angels, on the other hand, even though they were “stronger and more powerful” than evil angels, did not venture to utter a negative judgment from the Lord against these evil angels.
The parallel from Jude points us in the same direction. There Michael did not dare to pronounce judgment against the devil on his own authority.
Yet when Michael the archangel was disputing with the devil in an argument about Moses’s body, he did not dare utter a slanderous condemnation against him but said, “The Lord rebuke you!”

Like animals, the opponents operated on the basis of desires and feelings instead of reason.

The teachers believed they were reasonable, but they displayed their foolishness in criticizing what they did not comprehend.
The MP is that, like wild animals that are hunted, FT will be judged.

The FT will reap what they have sown.
The opponents were so consumed by and fascinated with evil that they could not even wait until dark, the time when evil is typically practiced
They delighted in their deception—like their father the Devil.

They are full of adultery—literally, the see woman only as objects of pleasure instead of daughters of the living God.
They pursue sin so much that they have trained themselves in greed

What are you training your heart for? You are what you love.
That’s why Jesus say, where your treasure is that’s where your heart will be.
The FT love sin and they are storing up judgment for themselves.

Balaam—sought riches
The point of the story is that the Lord sovereignly spoke through Balaam to bless Israel, even though the prophet desired to curse God's people
Even hearing and saying the plan of God he still does not believe and also tells Balak to send foreign women to Israel and they will fall.
A donkey sees reality better than Balaam did.

The primary description of Satan…his go to weapon is deception. He wants you to be deceived about sin.
It’s ok…it won’t hurt anyone. Everyone’s doing it. You can’t be perfect anyone. Just one more time. You have control of this. You can stop at any time.
Flee from youthful passions, and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.
Flee sexual immorality! Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the person who is sexually immoral sins against his own body.
They promise freedom from sin but they themselves are enslaved.
They promise water—but leave people thirsty and confused.
(1) They spoke with a kind of assertive confidence that made the weak think they must have known what they were talking about.
(2) They appealed to sinful human desires, arguing that it made no difference at all if we indulge our sexual appetites to the full.
(3) They maintained that their teaching was the pathway to freedom, arguing that the gospel originally received is nothing other than bondage. Peter (v. 19) saw the promise of freedom as highly ironic since the teachers themselves were captivated by sin.

Having originally heard the gospel, appearing to have made a confession. the FT now deny the truths about the gospel.

Apostasy is dangerous because once one embraces the gospel and then turns back, it is even harder to reclaim them afresh for the truth. The last state has become worse than the first. It is better not to have known the righteous way than it is to repudiate it, probably because those who have known it will not be inclined to consider the truth again. Those who have fallen reveal themselves to be like dogs and pigs. Their true nature emerges in that they return to vomit or the mud pile.
