Logos: “The Word”
Tonight we are going to begin a new study about missions.
I am hoping that you will join us for this study as we prepare for our mission trip and as we learn about missionaries in our country and around the world.
Not only are we are going to talk about missions, missionaries, but we are going to actually do some missions locally right here in our own town.
Before we begin I want to kick things off with an activity.
Introduction: Word Guessing Game - Group Charades
So what does it feel like when you are unable to guess what the crowd was doing?
Did any of the clues that we were given frustrate you?

Q1...
So tonight I want you to imagine with me for a moment what would our spiritual lives be like if we did not have the Bible - the Word of God.
I’m going to teach you a Greek word tonight and that word is (Logos).
Logos means God’s Word - Written - Spoken, and the Person of Jesus.
I want us to look at the word Logos as we find it in John’s gospel tonight.
We are going to be looking primary at the gospel of John tonight because John gives us a clear framework to understanding Jesus as he personification of God’s Word or Logos.
Listen to , (Read and insert Logos where you find Word.)
;
So Jesus actually is the Word of God, but he also taught the Word of God to others.
Jesus came as the world and taught about Himself so that we might be followers of God’s Word (Logos) made flesh.
One thing that Jesus taught during his ministry on earth was that to be a disciple one must follow and obey God’s logos.
Many times in our English translations logos is translated as my words or my teachings.
So we have been talking about Jesus as the Word of God which in Greek is Logos.
Take a moment and look in the passages that I have given you and find where you think the word Logos might be.
Be able to share with our group how this passage relates to being a disciple of Christ.
Divide up into groups and look up verses on note cards.
- a disciple hears and believes that God sent Jesus to bring eternal life
- a disciple seeks to follow God’s will presented in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.
- a disciple ultimately follows God because Jesus was sent to be a light in the world in the way He lived and in everything He spoke.
- a disciple is taught by the indwelling Spirit of God that will help us to remember God’s Word.
- A disciple remains in God’s love to honor the Lord in all they do.
So tell us what you found...
When Jesus said this he was speaking to believers.
Believing in Jesus is not enough.
(Even demons believe in Jesus James 2:19)
So what does being a true disciple of Jesus actually mean?
Follow Him, Trust Him, Serve Him and Others - you are a missionary.
“A true disciple does not just believe in Jesus but they follow Jesus.”
These things are an act of worship to Jesus.
A true follower of Jesus lives a life of worship to Jesus.
